Re: Free Sirius almost over, are you going to renew?

I am in the GC for two hours every day so I would need to have a whole lot of downloaded songs to make sure I did not get tired of them pretty quickly. At 3 minutes a song I would listen to 40 songs a day 200 a week and toss some in for my just driving around time. It is convenient and nothing to hook up. The sound is not good.

While I have had it in my vehicles since they began, the awful reception in the GC has me on the fence about paying for it when that time comes. I cannot imagine I would have much more drop outs if I used my phone which for now has unlimited data so I could stream it.

With my previous radios it was a big surprise when the radio went out and then it was in places where there is no chance of getting a signal like parking garages or tunnels. This one sometimes drops out when a trailer drives by and two lane bridges on the interstate are enough for it to drop for a few seconds.

Supposedly they started installing new antennas a few months earlier than the build date of my GC but if this is better then the older antennas would be intolerable. on one road I have no radio for 10 seconds or more. I can only imagine what that area is going to be like once the trees start getting leaves. If it get much worse well I really think I might have to use the cell phone. I like travel link for the weather mostly and fuel prices is a nice feature. Not sure it is worth paying for but it is more convenient than the phone and in NY if a cop sees you fiddling with your phone you are going to get a ticket.

The antenna TSB appears to have two alternatives, a new body color shark fin and a small black whip. Way out west, FM is pretty much a non-starter, and the Satellite just keeps on except in really deep canyons [i dont have the tsb yet] so it is a no brainer.

The weather and travel link is just a plus when you are driving cross country, or may be in an unfamiliar area with a traffic jam ahead of you and you don't know the local roads to get around it easily.

YMMV, to me it is a no brainer, crappy sound quality and repetitive playlists on SXM music or not.

... although with 4-500 songs on a usb stick, you can drive from denver to vegas and never repeat a song and get better audio.

Called Sirus and spoke with Nick today at 11am. He hooked me up with the $25/5mo plan and had the invoice sent to my house. Will be paying with money order. I don't know about the rest of you, but I love when they say "i can't give you that price this was last years offer" throwing it back at them and saying yes you can.

I got one year of service for $80.00. I wouldn't pay any more than that.

Always had great reception before this vehicle even with those magnetic antenna things that sat low on your roof but you have to run a wire out the window or through the trunk. I can live with the so so sound quality as I mostly like to listen to the talk stations be it new or business or funny stuff so it is good enough. I love the service and even invested in the company when it was down believing that it was a service that is pretty much a necessity to those of us who drive a lot. I remember way back when constantly looking for a station and how on Sunday nights when I had to take a friend back to school I would drive home with nothing on because there were no stations you could get. No matter how much I moan I probably will renew as the alternative is just not even close to as simple.

Called Serius yesterday to stop my subscription when the trial runs out....sheesh! Like pulling teeth. The guy just couldn't understand the idea of poor sound quality. He kept asking if I had bad reception, and I kept telling him the reception was fine but the sound quality was thin. I don't think it ever did sink in.

I'm sure it sunk in, he just didn't want to lose you as a customer.

I get another free year of Sirius since upgrading to my new 2014 Overland a couple weeks ago, but like yourself...if they want to keep me as a customer, the price would have to be $80 per year or less since I'm only in my vehicle for less than an hour at a time, and I only listen to a handful of music/news stations. As for the reception, it's acceptable to me for my needs.

Re: Free Sirius almost over, are you going to renew?

Had my service finally shut off yesterday. I asked the lady about pricing and she went through all these expensive packages at nearly $200 a year. Mentioned I had a deal come in the mail for $25 for six months and she instantly gave it to me. No argument or having to work out a deal and opted for a paper invoice to avoid the $110 renewal price. The sound clarity isn't the best, but my wife enjoys the service and can't pass on the pricing.

I did the same thing - waited until service shut off (almost a month after end of trial period), then called & took their 6 month offer for $25.00. Had them issue me a paper invoice, which I'll pay via money order. Noted in my calendar to call & cancel it just before auto-renew date in 6 months. Could tell the person on the other end was reading from a script when I requested the invoice - "you realize the most convenient way to continue your service uninterrupted is to provide a credit card number?". I travel enough that I'd miss the news channels while on the road, but the music quality sucks. Certainly worth no more than $5/month to me.

Re: Free Sirius almost over, are you going to renew?

due to illness, I might not be around when my free Sirus expires in August, so I need to type out instructions for my wife who is not tech savy and does not know how to use a computer and uses her smart phone only to make calls. She loves the country , 60's,70's, and 80's on Sirus sonwould appreciate any advice on renewing Sirus so I can type out step by step instructions for her. She probably will not know how to use media apps but i want her to be able to use the navigation so she can find her way home and have the assist, 911,phone pairing and sirus radio available. I dont want a fast talking salesman to take advantage of herI woud appreciate any help..Thanks P.S. does shehave to buy theUconnect package AND the Sirus?

Navigation is not a part of Sirius service - it is standalone and requires no monthly charges (except possible realtime traffic information if supported by your in-car navigation system. I don't have it and my Nav system doesn't support it. It may or may not come from Sirius).

I don't know what you mean by assist. If you mean something like GM OnStar - this is not a part of Sirius service. Chrysler may have something of their own for your model year, I don't know.

911 is not a part of Sirius. Phone pairing has nothing to do with Sirius, it is standalone Bluetooth link between your phone and in-car audio system.

All Sirius provides are radio stations and optionally weather forecast/gas prices/movie showtimes/sport scores/real-time traffic if your in-car nav system supports it (not 100% sure about real-time traffic).
