This is actually the first time i have bought an extended service contract on a car, normally i dont believe in them, but the maxcare lifetime was too good of a deal to pass up if you keep the car a longtime which i plan too. So im not used to dealing with rentals on a service contract either but it actually works real well and easy. Behaves almost like a loaner program, cars are on site and they hand me the keys and i go, no cost but gas i use. I would have gone crazy if i didnt have those rentals the dozen times i have gone back the last year and a half. It tookem 5 days to replace the xm antenna once so definitely a good side benifit to the service contract. Definitely something to consider when deciding if to buy maxcare or not especially since jeep typically does not do loaners reguardless of how new your car is.

The HK premium audio system was suppose to be available on the 2015 JGC Overland by March 2015, its April with no word of this option being available. I am waiting to order my Overland...I hope it comes soon! Any one hear of a new release date?

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

First off, some great and informative stuff on this thread. Thank you! So I've just come up on 12,000 miles on my 2015 Grand Cherokee Summit (California Edition) and absolutely love it. Searching for info on the HK system is what brought me here. I'm some what of music junkie so this system was a huge pro for me when I bought the Summit.

My only problems with this system are the 3 band EQ, the lack of control on the sub and the file navigation when using the SD and USB. But I absolutely love the sound. I'm currently at -2, +4, + 3 EQwise. IMO the system is definitely bass heavy. And I'm a bass heavy kinda person. The SD and USB are the best options for me as I can load up 24bit/48k files but oddly enough it seems the EQ only works on the SD card and not the USB. I wonder if anyone else noticed this. But I mainly have 320 MP3s loaded up.

Ah, only other gripe is the drivers side mirror vibrates/rattles when jamming tunes. You can't notice this when the windows are up but it's really annoying when the window is down. I'm taking it to the dealer on Thursday so they can fix this. I'll let hall know how that goes.

Curious if anyone else had the EQ issue on the USB. I do think it could be a crappy USB stick too.

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Have to agree, the three band EQ is a joke. Five band would've brought it into the 90's but I suppose they thought everybody would keep it on Surround Sound, not this guy.

As far as any rattling goes, I highly recommend Dynamatting the inside of the doors. You'll have to remove door panel carefully, then the 6x9 speakers. There's a nice little hand hole that helps as well. DON'T dynamat the window post guide behind the 6x9. I did and found paying tolls and ordering at the drive-thru not so easy when you can't roll down your window. LOL

I found dynamatting really gave me better bass and really helped with the mids as well as any rattling. Plus when you close the door you get a solid 'thunk' as if it were an S-series Mercedes. It also reduces the road noise significantly, which was a trade-off for me because I love to hear the SRT engine exhaust and noise...so I removed the rear mufflers.

Even if you're not up to it, good luck getting rid of the noise. I know it can be irritating.

I have distorted sound, what did you do to fix it (just turn up and down the volume) and how did you learn to try this?
Thanks

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Ok here is my story.2014 summit and the driver side passenger speaker has always sound blown especially with low bass high volume going through it. This can be reproduced through multiple of sources. Dealer changed speaker with the same problem still there (exactly). They swapped the left to right speaker (proven good speaker), and the left was still bad. I would say that the channel from the amp is bad and suggest that the dealer should swap feeds to prove this but this was too difficult. The dealer wants FCA to state the amp needs to be swapped out so that they are not stuck with a $2200 amp. The dealer wants to do it but here I have waited 3 weeks with no approval. Anyone else experienced a similar issue?????? Any other ideas to troubleshoot this issue other than an amp swap out? I have looked high and low for more info and I am lost.

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Dealer called today and FCA wants to do more tests before they will allow an amp replacement. What the hell can you possibly be testing? Should HK not get involved? My doctor dosen‘t even do this much checking at the best of times for me. This is becoming annoying , time consuming, and rediculous. They have already run the full diagnostics available through their scan tools and no faults were found but the distortion continues through the left rear speaker. Anyone else ever had an amp fault that I can quote to the dealer? I will now continue my search on as many forums as possible.

Greetings,

Was their any resolution to the problem or FCA is still ducking this?

Best for now.

Appointment is not till Sept 8th.
Since I am interesed in this stuff I called HK auto division tech support , It's funny how HK audio OEM division say they have no knowledge or involment with the design or manufacturing so they can not help but at the same time their web site boasts about the setup in the jeep. Do car manufacturers just stick big name audio company logos in their vehicles for a large fee to HK or Boses?
I found the amp part though (68217143AC) and its not $2200 , its about $1000 BTW. and I will be interested to see any identification markings on the amp (external and if possible internally)

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Greetings,

If they find nothing wrong again, my suggestion is to bring the JGC to hi-end shop. These shops have much better equipment in tracking down problems such as yours. It could be a simple wire connection or the wire itself. I know it is out of pocket expense, but, maybe the dealer will credit you for a future service.

HK is not the same company as we I and others knew it back then. As an OE supplier, they do not care about customer service afterwards. It is the same with the others to some degree.

IMHO, the Alpine System should have been on the level of the HK system, which should be entry/border level audiophile system. And the current HK system should be been a step up to match the European counterparts.

The shop that have been associated over the years has at least 2x a year upgrade to the HK to a higher level. It all boils down to personal preference.

Keep us updated.

Best for now.

New amp coming. They were able to swap leads at the head unit with no change to left rear spk. They then swap leads at the amp and the right spk went bad. This procedure is exactly what I told them to do over a month ago. Amp being installed Sept 22
