Not to highjack a thread...but I liked your comment about Pro Live audio...

Are you a pro audio guy or just go to a lot of concerts? I used to do some live sound touring in my old job and was around right when the Vertec line array's were coming out. Alongside, a smaller QSC line array came out along with Meyer etc.. etc... You're correct in that they're very very popular on tour, however if I were setting something up it'd be the last one I would choose. I found them very harsh sounding in the higher frequency ranges where-as both Meyer and QSC that I A/B'd them against still had the same clarity in the highs without the harshness I experienced.

This has nothing to do with our jeeps anyway so sorry for taking it off track. Please forgive me

Cheers!

No worries, thread is a little slow. Still do some pro stuff occasionally, more from the technical support side.

I didn't say I liked JBL just that they have some experience. There are people who can make it sound good. I am a d&b Audiotechnik guy for sound quality but my heritage is as a lighting tech..... it is how it all started (did some Robbie Williams music videos back in the day)

Anyway, last tour I actually had to go to was 3 days grace so I think it has been about 7 years. I do the odd thing here and there but one of my best Friends was the Brian Adams tech forever (back when touring was still glorious lol)

Anyway Harmon group does tones of automotive stuff and they tend not to sacrifice as much as Bose when it comes to vehicle audio. MDX Bose systems were a joke, if I was Bose I wouldn't even have put my name on those.

Good sound means a lot to me because I spend a lot of time in my vehicles and I REALLY liked the Summit system (after a little EQ tweak).

I am happy with the HK system in the SRT. I think it sounds great especially for a factory system. I did notice the input level seems a bit low when streaming from my bluetooth phone. I decided to load up a 16gb SD card with music. Wow great sound on music playing through the SD slot.

You can adjust your input volume from most phones. On android just press the volume up button once playing.

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

I should have thought to try that but i only played with the bluetooth streaming for a short bit to test it out. I was actually surprised that it worked by default after pairing the phone. I was punching the button to change sources from the steering wheel and it started playing the last thing i had listened to on the phone. It caught me by suprise actually at the time lol.

It actually works very well (in most cases) there are a few phones that have had some issues but we talk about that in the UConnect updates available now thread. I use the feature all the time, just jump in and is starts my last played song from the beginning.

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

I went from the '11 Overland to a '14 Summit with the HK system and I have to say that I am extremely impressed with it. Overall I think it sounds very good for a factory installed system.

Here are a few observations.

1.) Between HD radio, Sirius and BT Streaming, in feel that the BT streaming provides the best quality of sound
2.) If you are streaming from your phone, make sure you increase the volume on your device (actually a balance between the device and head unit). Cranking the head unit all the way up causes the music to not sound very good.
3.) I suppose it is the compression that Sirius is using, and while it sounds fine for normal listening I think it sounds the worst of the 3.

While I didn't upgrade to a Summit just for the HK system, it was one of the determining factors.

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Phone probably uses digital attenuation over bluetooth, it has too.

Set Phone Bluetooth ALWAYS to max to basically disable digital attentuation. Then adjust head unit to taste.

I use a USB stick for 99% of music, and 10 speaker system sounds fine.

Unless it's bluetooth apx it won't sound as good as usb/sd.

Can't believe people even listen to Sirus crap. Let alone complain about it on their 19 speaker systems.

That would be like complaining why does a 2.0L feel weak in a GC.

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

I'm happy with the HK in my Summit except for one thing - I use the "simulated surround sound" setting, and no matter what I do, the radio will NOT keep my balance/fade settings when I turn the truck off and back on. Even resetting the "driver 1 preferences" or whatever its called (the memory seat and stuff) doesn't do it. Every single time, the stereo re-centers the balance and fade.

Anyone have a fix for that, to make it stay where I put it? Or is it a case of "our surround sound computer is smarter than you are, so we will tell you how we're going to do it"?

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

I have been pretty satisfied with the sound in my Limited. The EQ could be better. Though the sound quality does change considerably between Sirius, HD FM and the USB connections.Bluetooth is pretty good. The Jeep interior is like a canyon. Coming out of three MB with HK it rates pretty well. Never had the problem in the GC with the speakers not preforming at high volume with any type of music. Everything from classical to High energy dance. The sub even prefomed well. The wife has my last MB with the HK and nothing can compare to that but the layout of the interiors are totally different. The interior layout can make or break any sound system. As I said the interior of the GC is a canyon.
