Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Ahh, that might explain it. Although we don't get XM in Australia, I've heard that XM is the worst sounding of any sound source through the audio system. Try the SD Card or iphone but make sure you're putting high quality music on not MP3s with a 128 bit rate.

That still don't explain losing your EQ settings though.

As far as bass goes, I just received a bunch of Fatmat Rattletrap in the mail. This weekend I'll be wrapping my sub enclosure with it and filling with polyfil to get rid of (some of) the bass mud. I hear this is the the way to go if you want to actually hear (and feel) that rear subwoofer.

Failing that, I think I'll be getting rid of those front 6x9's for 6.5's soon too.

As far as sound goes, it can change depending on the source. I've had the same song from my computer sound different on my iPhone, USB and SD card with the best sounding on the SD card. Plus you can play higher quality music on an SD card while the iPhone is limited to 16 bit/44 k music.
agree with all you say here. my EQ retains settings also no issues there. The source does make a huge difference. SirusXM sounds just plain awful because of all the compression I have been debating dropping it. SD card is the best and stereo sounds great with it. Pandora streaming through galaxyS4 and HD radio also sound good. for folks having issues just make sure you are using something other than XM when judging the sound quality, that one is likely a source issue not a stereo issue. using surround now but been back and forth with it.

Bass response is sounds like a cheap system.. Clarity sounds as a cheap system.. With all the speakers around doesnt sound like they are all working.. I feel as if the put the wrong speakers in.. Hopefully this isnt a big fix

There is part of your issue XM sound is awful. Use a well recorded SD card and report back. You will likely hear a big difference. good luck

Ok so maybe its xm.. I assumed it would sound better.. I never had any satelite radio before so i assumed wrong. What i will do is download all my bought itune purchases that should be high quality and double check to see if they are at the highest bit rate.. Ill get back to this thread.. Definitely still think one of these speakers are blown for sure.. Iphone i didnt use as a reference bc i know the files are compressed.. Gonna try the sd card..

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Not sure what the max the HK system will play but with the SD card try to put highest bit rate and sample rate that will play (eg. 24bit/48kHz).

I tend to have my EQ set at 4/1/3 (Bass/Mid/Treb). I also noticed that if you put something in front of the subwoofer in the rear you can hear and feel it more. Lame, lame huh. Found this out by accident when I put the dog in the back to take her to the vet.

Not lame at all.. sound bounces and depending on angles can dissipate.. Speaker placement is important to engineer.. I use this triangle wedges in the corner of my studio to round off the room.. Theyre called base traps. So you putting something in front of your speaker could just be reflecting sound in.. Got to find a few good reference songs and hopefully source the issue to my dilemma..

the XM is pretty bad but its not equally bad on all channels, it varies. some you will put on it will be like what is going on, total tin can and others are marginal. streaming Pandora through Bluetooth from galaxy phone also sounds good which surprised me. I thought it was going to be crap like xm but actually sounds good

Re: From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

How much data does streaming Spotify or Pandora through your phone use? We don't get any apps for the Jeep in Australia, except SRT, so I wouldn't mind trying this.

Greetings,

I would try out in Rockway, Dover Dodge,Jeep. I brought my JGC from them and use their service center until I found one in NYC, that I liked. Service folks there are straight forward. I know it is west of you, but it might be worth the trip and NJ Transit Train is nearby.

Dover Dodge Chrysler Jeep | New Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram dealership in Rockaway, NJ 07866

Manhattan Dodge, Jeep on the westside, from what I hear is pretty decent. It depends who get as the service advisor and the tech.

Best for now.
