front park sensors

I would like to fit front park sensors to the front of my WK2 laredo.i can buy the sensors through spare parts but i was wondering if anybody has fitted these and how involved is it, i know i would have to get the dealer to initialise them. Also where is the warning , is it in the evic or is there a seperate panel somewhere.I dont need the rear ones, i like to use the camera.
thanks all.

Re: front park sensors

Have you looked at the pricing for the sensors? The sensors alone are over $200 EACH, if I remember right. And that doesn't include wiring, the control system, bumper w/ cutouts, etc. You are better off with a front-only aftermarket system.

Re: front park sensors

I can buy the sensors for $440.00 dollars, spare parts salesman tells me it is a kit type unit, i priced them when i bought the jeep and was 450.00 front and 450.00 back fitted, but i had $50,000 woth of leveridge then. The car itself with towbar, sunroof and few other bits took it over my budget, but i would like to have them now, mainly for the wife. I assume the wiring is there already up to the connector, i was just trying not to start something i cant finnish properly.

Re: front park sensors

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but there are no front parking sensors in any model of WK2. The Forward Collision Warning sensors are not the same thing and will not warn a driver when driving at "parking speed".

The sensors you're talking about - are they the rear sensors and you're thinking they can be added at the front? Or is this an aftermarket kit? Either way you would need everything brandont suggests - there is no wiring or anything else in place to support front parking sensors.

Likewise, I don't think there is anything that the dealer could "initialize" since the WK2 doesn't support front parking sensors.

Re: front park sensors

The front sensors are available on the European version (see German brochure). As such, they are able to be ordered (just truncate the European part number). I forget the details, but this was covered in another thread.

OP, another potential option is using a Lockpick and a front-facing camera (since you prefer the rear camera over the rear sensors). The camera kicks-in automatically any time you are going less than 7-8 MPH in Drive. I'm thinking about this for parallel parking (still not used to the viewing-angle from up here).

Ah ok... My mistake. For this reason (and others) it's always helpful when people allow their location to be displayed.

Re: front park sensors

Yeah I tried to reply this AM but the board was having issues. You can get the parts from the export markets but they were really expensive. I think if the dealer is offering you a 'kit' for $400 then it is probably an aftermarket kit. Ask them if it displays the warning in the EVIC display. If not, then it's aftermarket. You can install one yourself if you don't mind taking off your bumper. The only question is - when do you want it on? You need a trigger - brakes, ignition, or a manual switch are easiest. If you want it dependent on speed then you need a CANBUS adapter.
