Gracenote -

I see that the Navigation systems are installed with gracenote - how does that affect organizing music on the hard drive?
My main question is, if i load music from several sources (USB, MP3 Disc, Audio CD) will the music be organized automatically but artist/genre? or do i need to manually organize that information?

Re: Gracenote -

Gracenote is only used when you copy files from an audio CD. MP3 files are organized using the metadata in each file.

Re: Gracenote -

Yeah, MP3s are organized using their tags, just like iTunes / iPod does - Artist, Album, Song, Genre, etc.

The Gracenote database also has album art, and is only used for CDs that you rip directly to the harddrive when you insert a CD into the unit. It is not used for MP3s, and any album art embedded directly in the MP3s is also ignored.

Re: Gracenote -

The MP3 organization in the 730N is klunky. On mine the ID3 tags are ignored for the most part, and apparently it does use the Gracenote DB, as I get some ugly album art and screwy genres, which are quite different from what I have embedded in the tags.

Re: Gracenote -

I have also noticed that album art for some digital songs shows up (very very few). I haven't been able to crack the code. I uploaded all 2000 of my songs via a thumbdrive. Some are MP3, some are ACC. I've purchased songs from Amazon, itunes, ripped songs from cds, and gotten digital songs elsewhere. There seems to be no rhyme or reason but I do know that the album art that shows up is NOT the album art that the song is tagged with on my iTunes.

I do believe that the RHR is using Gracenote to find album art.

I'm curious if anyone else has been able to crack the code and find out how to trick Gracenote into recognizing your digital music.

Re: Gracenote -

So far I've copied about 36 CD's from my collection onto the hard drive.
The GRACENOTES recognized all but 6, leaving me to manually add the:
Artist
Album name
Song name
Genre
Its a PITA, because if you don't do this, you end up with no way to ID the music.
And I'm not talking obscure music, I'm talking Classic Rock albums from 70's to the 90's.
