Same with me and samsung Focus. All you need to is hit the phone button and say "text message" or "sms" and follow the prompts. Basically there are 20 different pre programed text messages (I have not found a way to add your own or edit the ones you have) and if your phone supports it use the voice commands to select and send the desired message.

On incoming, there is nothing to do. When I get an SMS, the 430N alerts me that there is a new Message and "do you want to read it". Say YES and it reads the date, sender and message. You can then say "reply" to reply to it using the above...

Its pretty slick and I have read here that iPhones and some Droids have issues with it. Some Android devices and some WP devices seem to be fine. NO clue on Blackberrys. I believe it is all how the Bluetooth profiles are supported on the device. I do have issues with Bluetooth streaming and I am hoping that gets fixed in the vaperware update

Re: Hands Free Texting With 430N?

Mashie seems to have more success with the Focus and 430N than any other replies i have read. My Blackberry Curve works well with all other features except the SMS Text capability. Seems to be the norm.

You need Bluetooth MAP (Message Access Profile) on the phone for this to work. Very few phones support this, just some newer Blackberries, and some of the Motorola Droids (even older ones). Motorola added this to the Android OS, it is not part of even the newest Android distributions. Oddly though, the Motorola Atrix 4G which is their newest phone doesn't support it. No iPhones support MAP. I love my iPhone 4, but will trade it in on the first Android device that has MAP, and can match the iPhone 4 in terms of responsiveness and battery life. Right now nothing can do this.

I'm having the same problem where my 730n RHR (supposedly capable of hands-free texting) does not have SMS INCOMING MESSAGE ANNOUNCEMENT in the VOICE TREE SETUP. So texting doesn't seem to be activated between Uconnect and my Blackberry Tour. Will the Txt U L8TR app you suggest resolve this issue and if so, how?

I have the 430 RBZ, droid 2 as a phone. Reads texts to me and sends preloaded responses.

Re: Hands Free Texting With 430N?

I just found out through Uconnect tech support late yesterday that even though the 730n RHR supposedly supports hand-free texting, there are barely, if any, phones currently on the market that support SMS via Uconnect on this model NAV system.

See this link for Media Center Radios and specific cell phone compatibility.
https://www.jeep.com/hostb/crossbran...raft_REV_C.pdf

Nice. Like having a shit load of canned food but no can opener.

I guess this will be resolved with future cell phones maybe. Still a really nice NAV system and radio.

It really is separate from uconnect. It detects when the car is moving (I am guessing because uconnect is active) and can read the text out loud through the phone speaker. It will also send an automated response to the person texting you. I have mine set up to send the message that I am driving and I will get back to you when I reach my destination.
I hope that helps.

I tried to use the text feature on the 730N(RHR) today with a Samsung phone. Also couldn't find the right branch in the voice tree.
I found this thread and followed your link. If I am reading the tables correctly there are about 11 phones that will work with the 430N. The 730N(RER) doesn't have the "Text Message" feature at all. There are a grand total of 0 (as in ZERO) phones that are compatible with the RHR. Someone please tell me I'm reading the tables wrong. That's like selling a flashlight before someone invented the battery.

OOPs. SHEM just saw your post. Like your analogy better.

Sorry for the delay. TXTUL8TR is a very basic app so I doubt it.
