Hard drive

We have been downloading CD's on to the HDD for a while now. About how many average length CD's does it hold? (430N). Thanks

Re: Hard drive

Figure the average size of a ripped song is ~4mb and assume 15 songs per CD that means you should get close to 400 CD's onto the hard drive.

Re: Hard drive

I don't think that the media center converts files to mp3 (around 4MB per song) when you rip a CD onto it. Depending on the format used, when you are ripping regular CDs onto your Jeep's HDD it is more along the lines of 25MB per song (15 song CD=375mb per CD). Given that estimation you may be looking at around 74 CDs...ish (28GB/375MB). Hope that makes sense.

Re: Hard drive

It's real easy to check. just look at the HDD specs before you rip a CD then look after, the difference is how much space the ripped CD took.

I have only loaded mp3 and m4a files onto mine so I don't have any idea how many it takes. I long ago ripped all my CD's onto my computer and incorporated them into my iTunes library so I don't even know where my CD's are after 2 moves

Re: Hard drive

Page 44 of the radio manual says that the 430 rips CD's into AAC files (same codec used when you by songs from iTunes). These are roughly the same size as mp3 files. Going by the 4,250 song "rating", that's roughly 300 14-song CDs.

There you go but you know it's against the "man code" to actually read the manual

Not a direct answer to your question 4A, but on the 430n, press the My Files hard button and then the Manage Hard Drive soft button and it'll show you space used/remaining on your HDD. Then take a WAG as to how many CDs you've ripped and you should be able to guesstimate how many more you can feed it.
