Headrest DVD Players

I posted this on another forum without many answers, anybody here have any info?

Has anyone installed headrest DVD monitors yet? I am thinking of doing it, but am concerned about the active head restraint system and disabling it. I'm not worried from a safety stand point, just concerned that by removing them I will get a airbag warning light or some other warning fault. Anyone have any info?

Re: Headrest DVD Players

We have not seen any with DVD monitors yet. IMO...with the design of the headrests...it will be tough to add them. I am guessing the strap on monitors will work...but look tacky

I agree that the strap on ones will probably work, but was hoping that there was a way to install something a little cleaner looking. Removing the headrest itself is quite simple, but when you unhook the headrest's active restraint system I think that the airbag light comes on.

Re: Headrest DVD Players

Those look nice, I sent them an email to inquire about the price. I also popped off the plastic on the back of the front seats, snaps on and off fairly easy, the active head restraints simply plug into the bottom of the headrest pole, I unplugged it and started the vehicle to see if any warning lightss come on. Sure enough the airbag light stayed on until I reconnected the active head restraints. I might talk to a audio/video install shop to see if they have any ideas. I don't know if it is even an option, but if you could have the dealer turn them off with a scan tool that would work, but I'm sure it would be hard to find a dealer wiling to disable a safety feature like that.

It' not just Jeeps, most new cars have them. I'm sure there will be more solutions coming soon. For now you're stuck with post mount, ipad (also post mount), and the traditional overhead rearview mirror blocker.

Re: Headrest DVD Players

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought it be best to revive an older one.

Anyone know what size resistor is needed to bypass the SRS light? After a bunch of research I've figured out that the MB ML (close cousin to the JGC) is @ 2.2k; on the Nitro 1.2k. I don't have a multimeter nor do I know how to use it properly so I'm hoping that someone out there has done this and knows.

Now before anyone balks, I totally understand what the purpose of active headrests are and I accept the risks associated with removing them.
