Re: Here's your Harmon Kardon Subwoofer

By way of history HK was never a speaker company and aren't today. Back in the 70's they made good quality receivers, today their decent receivers but certainly not even close to high end. They have simply prostituted their name slapping it on someone else's speakers. Certainly much better than base or even the Alpine upgrade. Enjoy

I'll be putting a 350 watt amp on the Alpine sub tomorrow. I'll see if I can blow it up or shake it out of the enclosure. The Audison sub I'm getting to replace it hasn't been released yet.

Yeah, well with the Alpine amp you can't even hear the thing unless you put your head a foot in front of the enclosure.

Re: Here's your Harmon Kardon Subwoofer

Furthermore, I can't believe the complaints I'm seeing here about the HK. It's night and day above the Alpine. I have spent time comparing. I wouldn't be spending the money I am to upgrade the Alpine if I had the HK.

Re: Here's your Harmon Kardon Subwoofer

I have a 8" Sundown Audio sub with a Boston Acoustics GTA-500M (500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms) that I removed from another vehicle I had. I suppose there isn't much of a chance of this sub will be able to fit into the space the factory sub utilizes?

yeah, didn't think so... Dang.

Re: Here's your Harmon Kardon Subwoofer

That might work fine in the Alpine system which has the 8" speaker. The HK is 10".

Re: Here's your Harmon Kardon Subwoofer

Do you know what the 15 Altitudes have for a sub? I just got it today and haven't looked how to remove the trim to get at the sub yet.

Re: Here's your Harmon Kardon Subwoofer

That's what I have, a 15 Altitude with the Alpine system with the 8" sub. It's 2 channel at 2 ohm, so if your amp can input one of the speaker outs from the Alpine it might work fine.
