HK Speakers in an Overland NOT sounding right

Hi Everyone
Went on my first road trip water skiing at Burney Falls, CA. I have to say my jeep Overland performed flawlessly towing and around camp. My only complaint is that the HK stereo system (RCA was an Overland option that I waited for), certainly did not meet my expectations. I used both an IPhone and SD card both with 320 kbps music and both sounded rather poor. Too much bass (or should I say thumping) and tinny and the front door speakers (by the knees) are way over powering. I had to set the fade way to the rear to get the sound to be reasonable. The equalizer also seems to have little effect (as does the surround sound). I tested the HK audio in the Summit and it sounded much better. Perhaps Jeep did not set the DSP correctly for the Overland? Hopefully there is a fix in the works. Does anyone else have this problem (poor audio in an HK system in the Overland)? Any suggestions?

My Overland with the HK sound system will be here in a week or 2, i will report back with any issues. I listened to the HK system on a Summit when i was looking to purchase and it made spending the extra $800 a no-brainer. Would be disappointed if the same system in the Overland didnt match that quality.

Re: HK Speakers in an Overland NOT sounding right

One thought I had was that since the HK audio system was only available in the Summit and SRT which both have active noise canceling (Overland does not), perhaps the HK DSP needs a different setting for the Overland (which may not yet be out)? I guess my question is , does the active noise canceling effect the car's audio system? Can active noise canceling be turned off in the summit and if so, does the audio sound the same?
Thanks

Active noise cancelling cannot be turned off in a summit.

Re: HK Speakers in an Overland NOT sounding right

Picked up the Overland with HK speakers, listened to music (256kbps) using bluetooth and the aux input and didn't find any issues. I would say it was on par to the summit that i listened to originally.

Main 2 complaints is that the bass definitely thumps pretty hard, from the door speakers and rear sub. At lower volumes the bass is alright but as you increase volume the bass can quickly become overpowering. Which leads to my second complaint of volume control, it feels like as if the volume gets exponentially louder as you turn it up. 1-10 is almost nonexistent, 10-20 is useable, 20-25 is really loud. and 25-Max you risk losing your hearing.

Overall i'm very happy with the system, this is the first time I've spent the extra money on the upgraded sound system option coming from a stock Lexus sound system.

Thank you, I agree the bass thumps hard and lower volumes are much better. I just expected more clarity at higher volumes.

Congratulations on a great vehicle and have fun with it.

Re: HK Speakers in an Overland NOT sounding right

HK system is not worth it. HK involvement in the whole process is minimal, other than allowing FCA to use their name branding. I called HK auto division investigating some issues wrt my system and they told me that they have nothing to do with the design and production and will not help, but they were quick to get on trying to sell me speakers. If anyone else finds out any other information I would be pleased to know. I feel the whole thing is a scam. Having said that my Jeep GC summit system sounds great but as far as being a HK system, that's questionable. This could be what all the auto manufacturers do.
This is just my opinion.

Re: HK Speakers in an Overland NOT sounding right

I have a 2014 Summit and the HK audio is incredible! No equalizer issues, no over powering bass issues or tinny sound and volume works just fine.
If I remember correctly of my three settings, bass is like 3 or 4 below half, mid is like 1 or 2 above half, and treble is maxed. Sounds perfect and I have always been into high quality audio in home and vehicle.

I have nothing but praise for the HK in my 2015 Summit.
