How much money am I looking at to activate the GPS function?

I was looking through my manual and it says my radio has gps but it needs to be activated at the dealer? I did a quick Google search and it took me to jeep website that states $500.00?!? I can only assume I looked up the wrong thing or I'm looking at a whole radio unit? Seems outrageous to charge that much for activating a already installed feature.

Re: How much money am I looking at to activate the GPS function?

Yea it takes the the dealer a couple minutes to activate it. Had it done on my wifes 15 altitude before we drove off the lot. It's 595 like was said above.

Re: How much money am I looking at to activate the GPS function?

The $595 (sometimes discounted slightly by a dealer) isn't just to cover the dealer activation process...it also covers the licensing of the technology and map content which is normal in the software/application industry.

That price has nothing to do with the actual hardware. It is a license to use that feature or device. Think of it like Microsoft Windows or Office. Regardless of which version you purchase, the entire software suite is actually installed. But, unless you purchase the full version, those features are locked or hidden. If you then purchase a new software or license key, for sooo much more than you thought, it will open up more of the suite.

Exactly. It's a license that needs to be activated.

Re: How much money am I looking at to activate the GPS function?

I did pay $300 after a visit the week after we got our Jeep. It's on your dealer on how much "he loves you". But that was 07/2013
