I wanna MOD......but need some help?!?!

So first, I am new to this site. I just registered a few days ago and this past Friday got my 2014 JGC Limited w/ 8.4NAV and Alpine 9 speaker config. But......I WANNA MOD!!!!

So this is my plan, and looking for advice, suggestions or just general talk about the setup.

replacements:
Dash - Polk DXi 350
Front - Focal Performance PS 165 - 6.5"
Rear - Focal 165A1SG - 6.5"
Amp - JBL XD400/4 (for only front and rear, Center and back pillar will go off factory)
Processor - rockford 3sixty.3 or JBL Ms8 (still trying to decide)

Thx

Re: I wanna MOD......but need some help?!?!

Greetings,

Welcome to the world of correcting the Alpine Premium Factory System.

Since you still want to use the factory amp that has the surround sound built-in in the form of the Eurphony which is what the LOGIC 7 is (IMO, the LOGIC 7 is far better), the JBL MS-8 will not serve your purpose correctly. The best way to use the JBL MS-8, is to use as the main DSP unit and go the full way with additional amps.

Based on your setup, you can use the RF 3.sixty3 to sum the channels of the front woofer and tweeter and make into one input signal for the left and right channels. From there, you can instruct the output stage to separate again for better sound or leave it as the right signal frequency and use the passive crossover for the front woofer and tweeter. You can also take the summed signal and assign it to the rear doors as well. The rear door will be able to regain time delay if you wish.

On the RF 3.sixty.3 I am not sure if you can sum channels and then have the other RCA input channels assigned at the the same time. You will also will need a high to low for those channels. The best bet is to call Rockford's Tech people. They are great bunch of people.

The only other thing in the setup, the center channel really needs to have more power and the ability to tune it. You do have flexibility in your proposed design.

I have both the JBL MS-8 and the RF 3.sixty.3 running in my set up.

Best for now.

Forgot to ask you.

Question: What are you doing with the factory subwoofer? Are you replacing it?

Best for now.

Warranty claims that can be directly traced to modifications made to your vehicle can be denied, but will never void your warranty, per se.

Greetings,

If it is done correctly and does not damage the Hi speed-Can bus that the JGC uses to communicate between the internal computers and other electronic components, it should be no problem. This applies to model years 2011-2013 and for 2014 I do not remember what they use.

Some dealer's service departments will say that in order to cover themselves and make more money on the repairs. My dealer service department did not give me any problems, in fact they thought it was the cleanest install.

Their are more manufactures suppling harness for the JGC today. Right now, PAC is the most popular here in the forum. Others include Metra, Cruz and iDatalink.

Best for now.

Greetings,

That is correct. In this case, if the Hi speed- Can bus is not permitted to talk to another component or the wrong information is being sent because of a bad aftermarket radio harness, then they can void the warranty repair you came in to be fixed.

Best for now.

Re: I wanna MOD......but need some help?!?!

@1stJeepGC

Wow, great information and thank you for your advice. I think I have decided on the Rockford 360.3.

I am however changing the rear door speaking from component to coax Focal PC 165 6.5". As for the Sub, doe now, it will stay how it is, but will chg it out, maybe this summer. I still have to spend money of running boards and wheels/tires :-)

I am now considering getting a 2 channel also for the center speaker. Just something small but will do the job.

Thx
Anthony

@1stJeepGC

Can you also tell me your thoughts on the center speaker in my current config, if i did not get an additional amp?
Also, what do you think of the Bit10 vs 360.3

Thx
Anthony

Re: I wanna MOD......but need some help?!?!

Greetings,

It looks like you want to keep the surround sound audio.

First, in terms of amp selection, the JL Audio is an excellent choice for your budget. In my setup, I am using the 6 channel XD 600/6 to power my center, rear door and rear pillar. I would recommend these two amp from JL Audio: XD 1000/5v2 and XD 400/4 or XD 600/6 depending on how you config the processors in conduction with the front doors with using the passive crossover or not. The advantage of the 1000/5 v2 will be your decision later on if you want to add a real subwoofer. Therefore, make sure that amp power wiring kit can handle 2 amps, this way you do not have to pay again down the road.

With regards to processors, both RF 3.sixty.3 and the bit10 are both equally good. The advantage of the RF, the computer chips are faster, which is important in dealing with sound. I will have to look over the bit 10's xover functions again to see if they have a band pass capability. By this, you can really control the frequency range. The rest of the functions are pretty much the same, although, the RF has a better eq section if you are in to detail tuning.

So the question really comes down to these points: Do want to use the passive crossover for the front door or take it up a step and have an electronic (active) crossover? Second, do want a go fully with electronic crossovers for each channel? How much do you want to spend?. From the answers to these questions you can determine you upgrade path.

Best for now.

Re: I wanna MOD......but need some help?!?!

Ok, so after lots of thought and good advice, I changed things up a bit and I think i finaly got things where i like. SO now here's what's been ordered.

Dash - Polk DXi 350
Front - Focal Performance PS 165 - 6.5"
Rear - Focal Performance PC 165 - 6.5"
Amp - JL Audio XD400/4 for Front door........possibly bridged
Amp - JL Audio XD600/6 for Rear Door, Center and Rear Pillar
Processor - Rockford 3Sixty.3
Sub.......Stock on factory Amp

Question, does anyone know what the factory rear pillar speakers are, meaning model and what they can handle, I am hoping I can use the JL on them as they are. Don't wanna spend anymore right now lol hahahaha

Greetings,

The D pillar is officially listed as 2.5 inches. I have a 3.7 that fits nicely.

Check this thread out, I have pictures of my speaker:

D Pillar Speaker Hole Size

I will send another post later on your new proposed setup

Best for now.
