Re: If not 6x9s in front.......

Captain,

I installed my JL 700/5v2 amp in the cubby hole under the drivers seat. I routed the power and negative cables under the center console and directly to the battery. I tapped the speaker wires off the head unit, converted to RCA, and then used RCA cables under the center console to the amp which accepts high level inputs. Speaker wire runs under the scuff / kick panels on left side. Clean install. Without seeing the sub, you wouldn't know I had any aftermarket equipment unless you removed the cover for the hole.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

Not sure if you are referring to the power pack or an actual amplifier, but either way you'll need to go directly to the battery for your constant 12+. For your remote turn-on (for either) you should be able to tap into a cigarette lighter wire.

In addressing my original question, I most certainly have seen adapters to substitute other speakers in a 6x9 opening, but I'm having trouble seeing how a 6.5" speaker will fit in an oval opening that's only 6" tall.....
They actually fit really easily. The only ones you might have issues with are some GM oversized 6.5". They are more like 6.75"

However, I went with the Focal 6x9 component set.

Kenwood KFC-6985PS 6x9's for the front doors.
Kenwood KFC-1665S 6 1/2 for the rear doors.
Kenwood KFC ST01 tweeters for the upper front doors.

To say that the difference in sound audio quality and pure power is STELLAR is an understatement.
It by far surpasses the Alpine system. I know this because my bud has the alpine system in his WK2 and it couldn't compete, even with his subwoofer and mine without. And I have since added a sub for my own amusement.

This cost me well under 300.00 for everything with doing the installing myself..

Hope this helps. Any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Hey there, looking at upgrading the stock 6 speaker no nav 8.4 in my 2015 altitude....

assuming all I need is the KTP-445U and splice that into the factory harness? and run constant power and possibly dedicated ground?

appreciate any input, im assuming since I don't have the 9 speaker system my head unit is not an Alpine based and cant use the KTP-445A model?

thanks

Re: If not 6x9s in front.......

In wondering if those kenwood speakers and amp would sound good also with the factory 8.5 inch touchscreen head unit. Why did you choose those instead of the FOCALS that are pretty popular here? Did you also replace the rear pillar speakers?

ill let you know since I got them all at home just need to get it all installed... just confused how to connect the KTP amp... I was under the impression I just needed to tap into the factory harness match the front/rear speakers and make sure there was a power and ground... read the diagram in the box and shows I need to run new cables to the stock speakers... not sure if that's true... ive done a system in almost every car ive had but drawing a blank with this setup...

In addition, you have protect rights under Federal law via the Magnuson-Moss Act.

FYI - the Maxcare "warranty" is technically a "service plan" for exactly this reason. You should not assume that laws covering warranties on consumer products will apply here. Now, I'm not saying they will or will not give you grief over any upgrades, but I am saying that pointing to any law specifically applicable to warranties may not be sufficient here.

Greetings,

Point well taken.

It is important to understand that if the install does damage something within the electrical system and in addition the electrical does effect another system that is govern by it, the warranty can be voided. The proof does lie with the dealer. Most times it is easy for them to prove that. That is why the install has to be done correctly.

On the flip side, many car manufactures do not want to get bad press over stereo upgrades. This is increasingly important now that the car manufactures are increasing their presence at CES.

Some dealers do recommend install shops for those who want to venture for an upgrade.

Back in the day, Chrysler was the most user friendly system to an upgrade.

best for now.
