In dash Nav / Radio upgrade - microphone input location?

So I've decided to upgrade to the Pioneer Avic-8000NEX instead of going to a 730n RHR. The RHR is about the same price for a used unit ($700) but the lock pick is stupid expensive ($300). $1000 total or so is a lot of money just to gain blue tooth streaming audio and (hopefully) proper voice texting over my factory RER.

HOWEVER, the Pioneer, even with ALL of the PAC components available, will still cause me to lose the function of my u-connect and call button on my steering wheel. I'm willing to deal with that (would love to retain all factory functions)
BUT, what I'm not willing to deal with is having to use the clunky aftermarket Pioneer microphone....
I've read that you can't use the factory microphone for hands free calling with the Pioneer (or any aftermarket) deck.

However, I was thinking if I could find the imput for the factory microphone, I could tap or splice into it and convert the Pioneers input cable to it... Can someone tell me where the mic input is and if this is possible?

For those of you who want to know, here's a little history that has gotten me to this point.

I have an October 2010 build - 2011 model year GC Overland. So I unluckily got stuck with the 730n RER. It's super annoying trying to use the blue tooth. The cell phone portion works fine, but whenever I receive a text, the radio thinks I'm getting a call and turns on and starts the call time counter.

If I try to send a text using voice-to-text, evertime I hit the microphone on the iPhone the radio has a delay then a BONG before I can start talking. Then when I hit send, the radio shuts off and says "phone call completed", then the radio immediately turns back on again thinking I'm on another call. This goes on and on continually by itself until I turn off blue tooth.

This only started when I got the new iPhone 6 (two different iPhone 6's do the same thing), and didn't happen wtih my Galaxy s4. So I know it's something to do with how the iPhone accesses the radio's blue-tooth.
Either way, I want to upgrade to avoid this annoyance.

The mic is usually in the rear-view mirror.

Have you check to see if there is an updated the firmware for that RER to see if that fixed the behavior you have? SOX is the resident expert here on that and generally provides the firmware.

I'm not asking where the mic is located...

I want to know where the input is on the back of the radio for the mic... Which wire(s) is it?

That way I can tap or splice the factory mic wire(s) and cut the mic off of a pioneer mic cable, then attach the bare end of the cable to the factory mic wires behind the deck and then plug the male pioneer mic plug into the new pioneer deck.

This way the pioneer deck would be using the factory microphone.

Yes my RER is up to date.

Greetings,

Try one of these, I do not remember which one is for your radio, but you can trace back.

Best for now.

Re: In dash Nav / Radio upgrade - microphone input location?

Sorry, I misunderstood your question...I don't know what wire. Have you checked to see if there are any adapter cables/connectors available to do a plug-and-play install for your alternate system? That might eliminate the need to identify a specific wire.
