Infinity upgrade not worth it!

Really pissed, purchased the infinity component speakers, 6x9s and 6 3/4. System sounds worse, it's like all treble, I'm missing half the range (mid to low). I can return to crutchfield but I'm out the install fees. Even if the supposed break in period provides more bass it's not worth the $600 for the speakers. This was a lateral move at best.

Unfortunately to get really good sound you need aftermarket amps and a real sub.

Did you put an amp on those speakers? And yes, 9/10 an aftermarket sub and amp are what is needed to bring up the bass. It's the same story on my kicker system.

This is my setup:
Dash: kicker ks35 coax speakers
Front doors: kicker ks693 coax speakers
Rear doors: kicker ks65 coax speakers.

The amp that runs them is a kicker dx400.4 4 channel amp.

The sub is a kicker L7 10" in a atrend spl box.
Amp on the sub is a Polk audio pa1000.1 mono block class d amp.

My head unit is a pioneer.

Once I had it setup and running and of course tuned, thing sounds amazing.

I wouldn't return the infinity speakers. You just need more components (good head unit. Amp, sub) to really bring it together

Re: Infinity upgrade not worth it!

So you're saying that even with the stock sub in the rear you hear no lows whatsoever even while playing with the bass and treble controls in the 8.4 screen? The infinities were that bad?

Re: Infinity upgrade not worth it!

For a simple upgrade without an amp there shouldn't have been all those issues.

Re: Infinity upgrade not worth it!

I have the bass turned up to +9. There is some bass but the treble overpowers it. The sound does not sound full, lacking depth on the mid and low range. There is more clarity but it's too bright. It really needs an amp but I don't want to drop more money. Not worth it to me. Honestly, the stock alpine system sounds better, the amp is designed for those speakers.

Also if the stock system really is 2ohms then the infinity's need more power because they are rated at 3ohms.

Wish u could get the Harmon system with the limited 75

Re: Infinity upgrade not worth it!

The stock 8.4 is wayyyy too locked in on the lows with no highs whatsoever. You didn't mention if the rear sub is doing its job at all.

Re: Infinity upgrade not worth it!

It's the 8.4 system and the 8 inch sub is working but it's overpowered by highs and treble. The system is not balanced.

To give some analogy, it sounds like a Bluetooth speaker you would get at Best Buy. It does the job, but your missing a depth and punch from a larger system.

Re: Infinity upgrade not worth it!

Nice analogy,it's interesting as there have been several other members who have switched to the infinity and claimed a balanced sound. Definitely better then what they had previously. I could imagine having more mids and highs throughout the jeep as opposed to the base we have now so that would be a totally huge difference.

Re: Infinity upgrade not worth it!

There could be a possible simple fix for this.

The speakers could very well be out of phase.

What that means is the wires connected to the speakers are incorrectly matched polarity-wise.

If the negative lead is connected to the positive (+) input on the speaker and vice versa, the speaker will not put out much if any bass.

Reversing the wires will resolve this if that truly is the problem.

If it's a factory wiring harness this could even be more of a variable since sometimes factory speakers are wired very different from the norm.

Hope this helps.
