Installation of OEM Camera in 2014 Laredo

I didn't have time to run the wires today, because I just finished installing my other project: install the uconnect 8.4 RA4AN into my Laredo E that had the RA2. I will run the wires later this week when I have time.

Re: Installation of OEM Camera in 2014 Laredo

I am trying to add a light bar with a park view camera to my 2014 JC Laredo E. The options I got with it are Customer Preferred Package 23E, Trailer Tow Group IV, and Off-Road Adventure I. I have the Uconnect 5.0 system. I removed the tailgate trim today to look at the wiring harness and my harness only has 2 wires that go to the license plate lamps. (I would post a picture but the app won't let me). The harness on the light bar has 6 additional wires besides the two for the lights. They are colored blue, green, grey, red on the top row and red and uinsulated silver and black on the bottom. I need to build a wiring harness am trying to figure out what pins to connect the wires to. From this post, I'm pretty sure the silver, grey, and green will go to the connector behind the radio. The black to a reliable ground. I haven't been able to figure out what pins I should connect the red and blue wires too. Any suggestions or help on this would be greatly appreciated.

For the correct pin placement, please read the entire post #1 of this thread.

What Trim level and wheel base did you choose when ordering the wire harness from ram harness.com? I may also give this a try.

This wire didn't come with the Mopar parts you ordered?

Installation of OEM Camera in 2014 Laredo

If you only have 2 wires at the tail gate, I'd suggest for you to follow the instructions on post #1 from beginning to end.

As of right now, No Mopar harness is available.

You will need to contact ramharness and order exactly what Dan ordered on post #1... A cable with 3 pins and follow his instructions to terminate the wiring.

Installation of OEM Camera in 2014 Laredo

Now I have some updates for vehicles pre wired at the tail gate.

I pulled both plugs at the top of chassis and all the wires terminate there. After I traced the wires, this is what I got:

At camera Pin 1 Pink/Yellow ends at the pin 6 chassis plug (top right) connector

Pin 2 Green/Orange ends at pin 5 chassis plug (left connector)

Pin 3 Green/Brown ends at pin 1 chassis plug (left connector)

Pin 4 Orange/dark blue ends at pin 10 chassis plug (right connector)

Pin 5 Shield ends at pin 7 chassis plug (left connector)

Missing the ground wire. Will double check if it is grounded at a ground point before the chassis connector.

I'm taking my time to finish this install, as I am avoiding to splice any cables and be as OEM as I can. I have been trying to find a way to purchase the pins that goes inside the vehicle at the chassis connector/plug.

Once I find these pins, I'll crimp them to the harness that I got from ramharness and place them at the correct location in the plug. Then I'll do the same for the power wires.

If I can't find the pins, I'll just splice and be over with it.

Re: Installation of OEM Camera in 2014 Laredo

I sure did look at all the great info on this post and also studied the RamHarness installation but I'm still trying to resolve some of the differences between harnesses. My current wiring seems to be similar to Dan's. The connector by my brake pedal has a different pin count than the one on the Ram and I haven't had time to find the chassis connector and look at the wiring there. The Totally Integrated Power module (fuze box) does have a 10a fuze installed in the parkview slot (F95) so I will need to chase this wire from the harness out the bottom and see where it goes. One question I haven't been able to answer is what is the function of the blue wire (pin 4 on the camera harness) and where/what pin does it eventually connect to. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1400715475.016755.jpg

I got a good deal buying the light bar on eBay. I have a couple ideas on how to make harness plug and play but since I don't have access to the electrical schematics it has been a bit if a challenge piecing this together.

Installation of OEM Camera in 2014 Laredo

I'm not in front of my notes now, but I believe the blue is for the BCM.

Also I think the wiring will go from the camera directly into the radio harness and power.

Re: Installation of OEM Camera in 2014 Laredo

For our USA MY14 Laredo Grand Cherokee friends, the following is the probs we have Downunder with Jeep Aust.

We are supplied with a few extra goodies that make the MY14 an attractive buy but what was originally advertised we are not getting.

That is a "ParkView" Reg TM rear camera supplied as part of the package.
BUT Jeep Aust are supplying a substandard camera as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike.

CRAPPY CHRYSLER CAMERA!!!

G'day all,
I am sick and tired of Jeep Aust and their bullshit attitude with their customers. They forget we are their bread and butter.

It took 4 months to get my camera after vehicle delivery, partly because I waited 2 months in the hope that a better quality camera would be available by then.
Sadly disappointed as are many of us.

So, as Mao said "First step on a journey of a thousand miles' or something like that.

* Official complaint to the dealer in writing.
* Official letter to Chrysler,Jeep,Fiat,Dodge,RAM, Alfa Aust or whatever their name is this week.
* Negative response from the two abovenamed parties (in writing of course) and then a submission to Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Points of complaint include;
* Misleading advertising in their brochures, online and hard copy. That includes the printed word and in image form.
* Misuse of the registered trademark "ParkView" camera for the MY14 Laredo
* Supplied camera does not conform to the descrition identified as "ParkView" camera

I have detailed information extracts from the USA describing the "ParkView" trademark registered to the Chrysler group LLC.
I have Chrysler Part Numbers for the Ltd and Overland "ParkView" camera's.

This information was asked for and obtained from within Fiat/Chrysler USA.

Only additional information I need now is;
* Photo images of the non conforming supplied camera's by Chrysler Jeep Aust.
* Technical details of the non conforming camera supplied by Chrysler Jeep Aust. eg. pixels and resolution details.
* Photo and technical details of the "ParkView" camera fitted to the Ltd and Overland.

My contact within Chrysler Fiat Jeep USA advises me that the supplied "ParkView" camera for the Ltd and Overland in the USA retails for US$265.00. (Their parts list price)

My bet is that Chrysler Jeep Fiat Aust cost for the non conforming MY14 Laredo camera does not come anywhere near that dollar figure.

Fellow MY14 Laredo owners, can you advise me of any further Points of Proof that I may have missed before I start compiling my submission.
I realise that Consumer Affairs Victoria can only facilitate a resolution between the parties; ie myself and Chrysler Fiat Jeep Aust.

But if an outcome is in my/our favour then it rolls over to an Australia wide verdict with each of the States accepting it as precedence and implementing the verdict.

The ACCC may also be interested in this complaint as well.

Hope to hear from any of you on this matter. I will be submitting this on other Jeep forums too.

Bluey
