...uhh...perhaps they merely read the text.

"Further plans will be to install the same Polk home-system satellite speakers, model TL1 SAT, atop the instrumentpanel and in the corners, same as I had in my Ford Escape. Here the right-channel unit is pictured without its grill."

Here's the DynaMat extreme applied to the RF door.

One 1X3' piece.

After 2 pieces.

I added 1 more 3-square-feet piece; it looked little different but for more material covering the upper-left corner; I added most of the piece to the center and around the speaker 'tube'. The panel resonates much less than it did before, so it's time and money (c. $110 including the application roller) well spent IMO.

One 3-square-feet piece of the Dynamat weighs 24.4 ounces, so one door's 3 pieces weighs 4.6 pounds, times 2 doors = 9.2 pounds.

Most of the pics from post 10 and on I can tell to be a jeep. At least the ones that show the rear ac cover plate.

To the op, nice work on getting everything to work. Please take picture of the dash with those speakers on it.

Now when I read the first post I thought you were trolling us or making a joke, but now it makes me want to put 8s in my door panels. Out of curiosity, what type of music do u listen to the most?

1. Correct!

2. TYVM, and will do. The saga continues. I disconnected the dreadful-sounding D-pillar speakers and plan to disconnect the same-sounding front-center speaker. Also will rewire the rear-door speakers in series to increase the sense of spaciousness. Since the original rear-door drivers--in fact, the entire original system compared with the Alpine/Polk/8"woofers system--have a little-too-much level and don't sound very good overall, having them rewired to reproduce only the difference between the left- and right-channel signals solves the level problem and adds a bit of 'ambience' to the mix. I did this in the Escape and it sounded quite nice.

3. If you buy good-enough drivers, doing so will be worth the time and money. I was an accountant in prior lifetimes, love speadsheets, and prepared one to compare various 8" candidates. I'll send it to you if you wish and e-mail me at jeffreybehr(at)cox(dot)net. Be sure to locate the center of the 8" driver forward and up--ie towards 10:30 of the clock--and there'll be enough room. I used 3/8" plywood as the baffle board, and the face of the driver just touches the ridges of the back side of the finish doorpanel. I've tested the 8"ers (with the instrument-panel Polks turned off) to quite-high levels--far higher than I would ever listen at--and they do NOT rattle or run out of excursion.

4. I love big-orchestra, Romantic-period Classical music; that's why I wanted the music coming from in front of me.

I think what I'll have, in a 'car' that I love, is an excellent-sounding music-reproduction system for orchestral music that includes a good SW to fill the bottom octave. I'll find out soon.

TY for your thoughtful comments and questions.

The instrument-panel speakers

The dark film is window tint. Knowing then what I see now, I would have made the film at least a half-inch higher. Oh well...I'm happy.

Re: Installed a new DVD REceiver in my '13 Limited

I guess I've been out of audio for a while; but are you saying that the sound from those velcroed speakers on the dash sound better than any other option out there that is actually mounted into the dash, doors, etc (Focal, MB quartz, JL Audios, etc)?

Those others on here chime in please........what speaker options have you used up front that you woulnd't need to tape down or velro these type of speakers?

I wouldn't know about that. What I do know is that I couldn't find any midrange/treble drivers that could be mounted in the instrument panel. And drivers mounted in the doopanels don't place the orchestra in front of me where it belongs.

Their is always other options for audio speakers to sound as good as house speakers. People win competitions with audio systems. imo

Also why did you use drywall screws to mount wood for the door speakers?
They are only going to loosen in time an cause vibration. You should have used self tapping machine screws.

Why Philip and Standard in the speaker?

Why Philip and Standard in the speaker? The slotted screws are longer than the Phillips-head screws and, again, that's what I had.

The last (I hope) significant modification of the system

In what I hope is the last significant mod to the system, we terminated the feed to the instrument-panel-center speaker and rewired the rear-door speakers.

We rewired these RD speakers in series and then across the positives (only) of the feeds from the original poweramp. Wiring is series makes them a mono pair, and being driven by the positives of the 2 channels causes them to reproduce the difference between the 2 channels. The result is a low-level, sort-of-phasey sound that adds some ambience to the main stereo signal, and the entire system sounds a bit more spacious.

What's left of the original system are the SW (unaltered), and the modified-feed rear-door speakers.

BTW, while working on the system today, we listened to it while playing only the front-center and the rear-door speakers, and I was reminded by the sound coming from that CC speaker just how bad the original system sounded. UGH!

Re: Installed a new DVD REceiver in my '13 Limited

It's definitely an interesting install. I like the idea of putting the 8's in doors and the concept of getting mids to highs on the dash. Regardless of what people may say, I imagine you have a good sound stage. I've seen SQ competition winning set ups with dual mids on each side cut into the dash for incredible SQ.

I'm not sure if you mentioned it but what impedance are the Polk home speakers? I only ask because a lot of home speakers are 8 ohms. If so you would be driving that amp pretty hard. Do you have any pictures of the finished product?
