iOS 8 with RHB Radio

I upgraded my Apple iPhone 5 to iOS 8 this weekend. Today the Bluetooth would not connect. When it tried to connect, the system thought there was an incoming phone call.

I tried reinitializing both the phone and the radio a couple of times. But still no properly functioning Bluetooth

Has anyone else had this problem?

Does iOS 8 work for anyone else with the RHB radio?

Re: iOS 8 with RHB Radio

I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 8 on it and it works perfectly fine. I would try doing a reinstall of iOS 8 on the iPhone because that tends to fix problems. I have a feeling it is the phone that is causing the problem. I had to do it on my iPad because it was glitchy and so far it seems to work. Try that and let us know.

Re: iOS 8 with RHB Radio

I haven't been in the car enough to take time to do the pairing process again. I'm sure that will fix the prob. The 6 worked good day one, then day 2 unconnect forgot the phone or vice versa.

Re: iOS 8 with RHB Radio

I'd turn bluetooth off on the phone. Delete all paired phones with the Jeep. Turn bluetooth back on in your phone, then pair it again.

I did the Bluetooth on/off, deleting, and re-paired multiple times before filing the initial post.

Apple might've done something "clever" that has broken Bluetooth on many vehicles, not just Jeeps.

I will try on my wife's 2014 Cherokee.

Re: iOS 8 with RHB Radio

Apple had a "clever" update rollout today with 8.0.1

My phone was shut down for 6 hours today before Apple could figure it out.

So the fact that Bluetooth isn't working like it should isn't surprising.

Re: iOS 8 with RHB Radio

There was a segment on CNBC this afternoon with Phil LaBeau. They heard complains about iOS 8 and Bluetooth issues in cars (he is the car reporter). They tested it with six vehicle models that people reported complaints with and it worked fine with them. They did say that that does not mean there isn't an issue out there and said that each of the major car companies have offices in Silicon Valley and will get a fix out soon if there is in fact an issue. So, hope that is reassuring....might not solve whatever issue today, but soon.

Re: iOS 8 with RHB Radio

This is perhaps unrelated, but reading this thread made me think of it. I have an '11 Overland and have successfully paired my iPhone 5 to it via BT. So far so good. I can make and take calls all day long. Wonderful. What it refuses to do is either read new messages (as in, I know there is a new message because I just heard the tone, but the radio says "No new messages") or send messages (as in, I say send message 12 or whatever for "I'm on my way", but it just says "Failed to send message").

I was wondering: do I need to have the uConnect app on the phone to access the messaging features? Is there something I need to do beyond the simple pairing I did when I bought this thing (the Jeep, not the iPhone, that's work-provided)?

iOS 8 with RHB Radio

iOS 8.0.2 is now available. I have downloaded and installed it but have not tested.

I'll wait on 8.0.2. Its still too soon. I'm still traumatized over the results from 8.0.1

I'm pretty certain that the read/reply to text messages doesn't work with iPhones ... it's only functional with Android systems. Something about the iPhone doesn't support/have a MAP (Message Access Profile).

This is directly from the Uconnect Access website regarding Voice Texting: Listen to your text messages without taking your hands off the wheel or your focus off the road with Voice Text Reply. You can also dictate and send free-form text messages with Voice Texting — powerful, cloud-based voice recognition from Uconnect® Access. Works on compatible smartphones, excluding the iPhone.
