IOS6 supports SMS via MAP

This should be good news for anyone with a 430N radio! According to Engadget’s review of IOS6 it will now support the MAP profile – which means the 430N radio should read incoming text messages (and I guess respond with ‘canned’ responses). Can’t wait to try it out!

The only place I could find reference to the MAP requirement was this TSB:

Re: IOS6 supports SMS via MAP

Update - I downloaded IOS6 on my iPhone4S. Deleted the phone from uConnect and deleted the uConnect from my phone. Re-paired it. When I enter the uConnect 'SMS' option it says the phone is not supported.

I went through the bluetooth settings on the phone as well as the new 'privacy' settings that are in IOS6. I can't find any way to turn on or off the MAP profile. Nor can I turn off any other profile for that matter. In typical Apple fashion those settings are too technical to provide access to.

I am guessing one of 2 things are happening:
1. uConnect needs an update - either because it has a list of accepted phones or maybe the standards have changed slightly. (Keep in mind the static music database)
2. Possible that although the MAP feature is advertised in IOS6 it may actually only apply to the iPhone5? I can't find any feature / device chart to define that though.

Anyone else?

So you cant use the phone at all now or just SMS? I have IOS6 on my 4s but have not tried to delete and then re-pair it with Uconnect

Re: IOS6 supports SMS via MAP

I had the SMS reading on my RAZR in my 300, while cool in the beginning I'm glad it doesn't work on my S3....I wouldn't want it to read a text or tell me I got a text from someone depending on who is in the car with me.

The phone calling works the same as before but no SMS support yet. Trying to find out (somehow) if IOS6 really supports MAP on all phones or just the iPhone5. If MAP is truly enabled then it is a Jeep problem.

Re: IOS6 supports SMS via MAP

Have you installed the TSR that adds MAP support to a MY2012 RHB? There's another one for MY2011 RHB.

Re: IOS6 supports SMS via MAP

FYI: Almost anyone with an Android device can flash a newer version of Cyanogenmod 9 or Cyanogenmod 10 on their device and also have MAP supported.

Re: IOS6 supports SMS via MAP

I thought my truck would have included that already, it was built 10/12. Any way I can check the version number to be sure?

October 2012 is in the future, so I'm guessing you mean it was built in December of 2010? If so, it's pretty old and this TSR from earlier this year would apply.

I had to be brain dead when I wrote that. Sorry, my truck was built 10/11 - just coming up on a year now. So that update should apply to me since it is up to Jan 2012, right? I'll have to get it in. I was hoping to wait until the rear clunk issue had a resolution but oh well. Need to get my SMS on.

Re: IOS6 supports SMS via MAP

I think this may be a solution to many of our vehicles not allowing SMS support to iphones using iOS 6.
