iPhone 4S won't connect to 130S/RES through USB Port but iPhone 5S will?

Hello all...I am somewhat stumped on this one...maybe some one has experienced the same thing.

I have a 2013 GC w/ the 130S/RES that is not connecting to my iPhone 4S through the center council USB port. I have brought it into the dealership 3 times now and they tell me that my usb port is functioning properly. I showed them that my phone doesn't connect or even charge when plugged into the usb port. The service manager plugged in his iPhone 5S and it started charging immediately and connected to the stereo right away. He told me that i needed to update my phone. But i assured him that my phone has been updated to the newest version iOS 7.1.1 but he assured me that the usb port is functioning properly. I looked at UConnect website and when asked what year car and what phone and what carrier i was using...it only allowed me to choose iPhone 4S iOS 7.0.2

Can it be that UConnect isn't compatible with iPhone 4S iOS 7.1.1?

Someone asked me if the usb > iPhone cable i was using was good. I didn't try another cable as i don't have one but the cable i am using charges my phone fine when plugged into the car's cigarette lighter charger. Can a cable charge a phone but not connect to the stereo? I could always go buy another usb>iPhone cable and try that....

Surely i don't need to purchase a 5S for it to work?

Any input would be helpful.

Re: iPhone 4S won't connect to 130S/RES through USB Port but iPhone 5S will?

Got the problem solved...I feel kind of foolish.

The USB cable was the issue. The dealership was correct the USB port was functioning properly. I purchased an Apple iPhone USB charging cable and it started working instantly.

The cable I was using was purchased from Target....I think it was a Belkin. But that cable charged my phone fine when plugged into the wall, so I am not sure what caused the issue but I guess if your phone isn't connecting to your stereo...just try another cable before anything.
