The SMS function requires a special bluetooth protocol called "Message Access Profile" (MAP). Stock Android does not have MAP, and no iPhones have MAP either. Some of the newer Blackberries have it, and Motorola has added it to a couple of their Droid devices, but not to their newest Android device which is the Atrix. I'm going to trade my iPhone 4 in on the first dual-core Android device to ship with MAP. As much as I love the iPhone this is exactly the kind of thing that Apple will probably be the last to implement, they tend to really focus more on appealing to the masses which is probably why they have been so successful.
