iPod control via HeadUnit

In the base model unit the 430 or 431 or whatever it is, do you get ipod control, like playlists and all that or does it see the ipod as simply a hard drive?

If it simply sees it as hard drive, is there a way to make it have more control, so i can plug ipod in and just leave it in glovebox or centre console or somthing?

Re: iPod control via HeadUnit

THe 430/430N is not compatible with all ipods:

ipods that use flash memory seem to have a better chance of working

Ipods with hard drives like the classic 120/160gb don't seem to work you can google the compatabiltiy list.

if you have an ipod or iphone that is compatible you can do what you propose.

Re: iPod control via HeadUnit

My 430N is working fine with my 80gb Classic. Not sure about playlists, though; not tried. I tend to browse by artists/albums/genre.

That said, I find using the head unit to navigate its music is cumbersome and slow. i.e., I'd much rather quickly use the thumbwheel to find, say, a particular artist, rather than keep hitting Page Down key or pecking in the name via the head unit.

Re: iPod control via HeadUnit

1) the base head unit isnt the 430 - 430 is tough screen hard drive head unit, option on Laredo models.

2) 430 *should* allow for full ipod control. It works fine with my Classic and iphone.

3) with the above being said, i've found i prefer storing music on hard drive or USB thumb drive from a logistical standpoint.

Re: iPod control via HeadUnit

In Aus the touchscreen HDD unit is the lowest base model you can get.

Ok cool, sound about what i thought. Cheers

Ah, that's good to know. You shouldn't have any issues with your iPod, and if you do, there are tons of ways to listen to music on the 430

Re: iPod control via HeadUnit

Just out of curiosity - do you use a specific Mopar cable, or your standard ipod sync cable?
