iPod integration with 430N/730N

I have my old iPods (classic and touch 1st gen) and I wonder how they will work with UCONNECT (430N or 730N). Not asking if I can play audio through headphones jack but more from browsing the audio collection point of view and being able to use my voice to play different albums/artists. Essentially looking for seamless integration with audio system and serving more like a hard drive extension to the build in one.

If I could do something like that why would I even consider moving anything to the 40GB (more like 20GB) build in hard drive. Better performance maybe?

Re: iPod integration with 430N/730N

I have an iPod Classic and 730N. I leave it it in the armrest. It plays just fine and the screen is great to play songs, play lists etc...
I do however wish it was faster to recognize right after start up.

... so once you start the car I would assume there is a considerable lag before your music is accessible? Are we talking seconds? Minutes?

I would imagine files need to be indexed once the device is reconnected so that might take a while. On the other hand, I would guess that should only happen when you connect a new device or filesystem has changed.

It can be a few minutes sometimes.

It really depends on the amount of material that you have on the device, could be a few seconds to a couple minutes.

Re: iPod integration with 430N/730N

Also wondering if iPod Touch / iPhone would be faster as it uses flash drive and not HDD.

Re: iPod integration with 430N/730N

My iPhone 4S connected to UConnect pretty quickly and there is not much lag to play any files from AUX using the adapter cord. I will try my very old classic soon to see what the difference is.

Re: iPod integration with 430N/730N

My iPod Classic 60gb is recognized within 30 seconds and plays very well with very little lack time. I have an original iPod Touch that I have simply given up on using with my 730N. It would take minutes to be recognized, if ever at all.

Not at all. The HDD interface is a nice fast parallel ATA. The USB port is old-school USB 1.0, not 2.0, so transfers are pretty slow. Bluetooth streaming is even slower.
