Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me out with my iPod cataloging problem. I got a brand new 2015 Grand Cherokee 2 months ago (absolutely love it to death!) and just got a new iPod touch as the Uconnect system wouldn't recognise my old one when plugged in. Everything with the new iPod is working fine apart from it won't finish cataloging the music on it. Every time I press the VR button and state my command, e.g. play song...., play album.... I just get the response that the music catalog is still updating and to try again later. it doesn't matter how long the iPod is plugged in for, every time I try I get the same response.
The iPod is connected via usb.
I have tried an sd card with music on it and it catalogs fine and allows me to use the VR, and the VR works fine for everything else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, it's most annoying not being able to use such a useful feature
From what you're describing, I'm wondering if you don't have a bad port. I have an old iPod Classic - 160 GB that works just fine in my port albeit slow. I'm guessing it's a combination of older hardware and being loaded up with music. iPhone or iPod touch work just fine too. How much music do you have on the iPods? How long have you tried letting it index? I have read about SD Cards taking a while to index but nothing specifically about iPods, though I have admittedly not looked into that since mine is working.
Have you tried different cables? Other than that, it may be that you need to pay a visit to your dealership to have it looked at.
Thanks for the reply jaybo41.
The old iPod didn't register in my husbands 2014 Colorado with the Mylink system either so I know the problems with that iPod where specific to it. Hence the new iPod purchase, (it's the new 6th gen iPod touch if that helps at all) which is the one I'm having trouble with the cataloging.
I can access everything through the touch screen fine, everything is showing up as it is on the iPod, playlists etc, so I'm totally confused!
I had approx. 200 songs on the sd card and it took about 5 mins to catalog, the iPod has approx. 550 songs on it, which I would have thought was a reasonably modest amount for an iPod!
I've had it plugged in for various lengths of time, an hour long trip and shorter around town trips running errands. I was using the cable that apple supplied and bought and used a new one today and no luck.
Is there a way to reboot the Uconnect system without it reverting back to factory settings? I haven't tried that yet as I don't want to have to set everything back up again if i can avoid it
For context, my iPod Classic had north of 120 GB loaded onto it and it worked--it just took a while to index. I too bought a new iPod touch (6 Gen) and have maybe 75 GB on it, so I am way above the amount of music you have loaded on yours.
Rebooting is a good thought and worth a try before going to the dealer for sure. Good call! to do this, press and hold the Mute and Browse/Enter knobs for 5 seconds. This should reboot it for you. Alternatively, have you updated your UConnect Firmware to 15.7.5? There's good reason do make sure you're up to date on this for security reasons, I'm sure you've heard all about the "hacked" Jeep. If you haven't, take a pen/paper and get in the vehicle, then write down the version you're on to validate what you have.
Here's the website that walks you through this the update. Enter your VIN and it will tell you if you have an update available. The directions are very straight forward.
Trying is what matters and I really appreciate it!
Excellent, I was hoping there was a way without having to revert everything back to factory settings and set it all up again. I have a 3 hr drive to do tomorrow so I will give it a reboot before I go and see what happens.
With the Uconnect site, if I have an update available, are the updates on there country specific or a worldwide thing? (I'm from Australia). I had a 2011 Patriot before I got my Grand Cherokee and the entertainment systems are worlds apart, I'm scared of doing something to stuff it up and have my warranty on the system voided or something!
I'm fairly certain that your VIN number contains a country code so they would know your local and know which version (if there are differences) to get to you. Your dealer can apply the update or you can on your own if you wish to. It's easy Don't hold me to this though, you could always contact Jeep.
So the reset was somewhat successful. Music cataloged, had full use of the VR, I was a happy little chappy. Hopped in the car this morning and tested it to see if all was still good and got that damn music is still cataloging response again
BUT! If I unplug the iPod and plug it back in, all is well again. Not ideal but at least we're getting somewhere now!
You might want to give your dealership a call. I was reading another individual's situation that sounded similar to yours, though it was stemming from a problem with the USB Port. There is a TSB that addresses this. None the less, it's a new vehicle and it should work.
Thanks jaybo41, any chance of a link to what you were reading to have a read myself?
I've been using a work around of having to turn the iPod off and on again which isn't quite ideal but got me through the 2 weeks I've been away. I'm going to do the uconnect software update today now that I'm home again and I had a new software update for the iPod this morning, fingers crossed.
If it's still no good, I'll give the dealer a call on Monday.
