Is it possible to add factory CD player to a 2016 Limited

Hello,
This has probably been discussed but the search does not find anything! Maybe its because its just 2 letters...
Can I swap in a factory CD player into our '16 Limited? Please don't tell me I'd be better off with SD card or ipod...we travel a lot and enjoy books on CD. I don't care that its out of date! We had to travel 200 mile just to buy a V8 Limited...no telling how far we would have had to go to find one with a CD player, as well!
I saw the "sticky" talking about removing the CD and someone mentioned a reprogramming necessary, if installing...but no real info. I was hoping someone might have done this swap and could fill me in.
Anyone interested in swapping their CD player for the non-CD storage bin? Seems like the storage space is important and few people use CD's anymore...except us old folks!
Grateful for any info you can provide...but please don't recommend I visit a dealer. I have no confidence in their abilities.
Thank you very much!
Jim

We used to do that and do 300 miles every weekend.
Ripping books would be a pain.

But we switched to podcasts.

We love listening to NPR RadioLab.

Just install iTunes, subscribe and then I copy every episode to the SD card.

Re: Is it possible to add factory CD player to a 2016 Limited

There should be quite a few lying around as in the early '14 builds a lot of people got them not realizing they took up so much space. Almost anything that gets added/change to the electrical/electronics system needs a software update at the dealer.

You may want to post this in our Classified section as WTB (want to buy) WTT (want to trade).

Good Luck.

I used to have a long commute. It was so long ago I listened to "Books on Tape", so books on CD ain't that old ... or is it just that I am THAT OLD?

Thank you very much for the reply mswlogo, but I am only interested in what is involved in adding a CD player...I don't mean to sound rude, but I'm not interested in how to get around not having one.

I wasn't suggesting that. BOTH works too.

Thanks bill_de, I'll do that, but I'd like to know whats involved first. I know some WK harnesses had some options included that were not installed...but I'm not sure that is the case on the WK2's. Hoping someone has done this and is willing to offer advice.

Its great to hear from another audiobook lover, unfortunately I can't help with your question as I have a 2013 so it came with the cd in the radio. I listen almost exclusively to audiobooks so now when I buy them I try to get the mp3 version if available so that I don't get killed while switching discs and driving. Which leads me to my last thought as with you I wasn't interested in downloading or other formats but having so many unabridged multidisc books and many other that I want to buy only available in standard cd format I was forced to go the computer conversion and download to flash drive route just to avoid the above mentioned disc changing while driving. As was said earlier people were yanking them out of 14s almost as fast as they were buying them so they should be out there for sale. Good luck and continue to enjoy those audiobooks and remember the good old days of 6 disc in dash radios

Why not just download the book to your phone (or old phone/tablet/ipad) and just plug that into the system?

Some of us that were born before the age of cell phones and tablets still only use our phones to say hello and good bye. Not trying to be a wise guy but I have a tracfone and the only reason I have that is in case of emergencies. Where I work we have people walking around with their phones surgically attached to their ears all day and never doing the jobs that they are being paid for. Anyone who grew up during the time of pay phones knows that most of these personal conversations can wait until you get home, so many of us don't indulge in the latest electronic communication devices.

After reading that post it sounds like you should be installing an 8 track

Re: Is it possible to add factory CD player to a 2016 Limited

Come on everyone...

Our country is crumbling at the seams because we lack respect for one another...our parents didn't teach us, because their parents didn't teach them. Now we lash out at each other simply because we don't do things in the same ways! Please think about the fact that each person or family has its own unique struggles or likes, that we often don't know about or are we even willing to take the time to find out about...let us not judge "until we walk a mile in their shoes". I'll bet we would find more in common than we can imaging.

Now please, back to my original request for help…

I just want to know how to add a factory CD player...what parts I need off the donor vehicle and if I have to have a dealer program in a “sales code” to get the thing to work! What is the sales code?
Thanks!
Jim
