Is screen protector needed for Nav system?

I recently noticed a small scratch on my '11 WK2 430N screen. It is not bad, only noticeable when the screen is off and you need to know where to look.

That being said - how do these touch screens hold up long term (~ 10 years)? I never had a car with touch screen before. I think I will get a screen protector for this one. If you can recommend one - please do. I prefer matte screen protectors.

I think it's a good idea.

I actually still have the factory protector attached, lol.

Re: Is screen protector needed for Nav system?

I've bought a few on ebay, and they work great. I also noticed Zagg has one. They are a pain to install, and get perfect. Whatever you decide, make sure it's a "dry" application. I think I'm going to try the Zagg for my new Chrysler. I can't seem to find the ebay seller anymore.

On the chance that you still have eBay email notification - how was this item called? Was it 430N specific or just generic 7" (or whatever the size is) 16x9 screen protector?

Re: Is screen protector needed for Nav system?

It was a few years ago. I tried searching, and couldn't find it on ebay. Since Zagg has one, and it's even cheaper, I'm going to try it. With the ebay one, you had to get it perfect on the first try. I had a speck of lint under my last one, and it bothered me every day. The same may apply to Zagg? It's tougher working vertically vs. horizontally (like a cell phone protector).

Chrysler MyGig Infotainment Center Screen Protector | ZAGG

PS> Found the seller in my Feedback: screenpatronus2. He's no longer active, and it looks like his feedback went to the dumper during the past year.

PSS> Lexerd is the other one I was trying to think of:

http://lexerd.com/shop/category_642/...aram=cid%3D%26

There are many that offer "custom" or "cut-to-fit" sizes. I currently have bestskinsever on my iphone -- which I like much better than Zagg. I know you can order a basic/bulk sheet from them, and cut it down.

Re: Is screen protector needed for Nav system?

For the Uconnect 8.4, a suggestion in another forum is to buy the screen protector for an iPad, or something similar in size, and cut it to fit.

The Wacom drawing pads have aftermarket protectors... they are quite tough since they are meant to protect pressure sensitive pads.

Re: Is screen protector needed for Nav system?

Just my $.02 that a screen protector is not needed. It's not the easily scratched plastic like the dash cluster. I swear that swirls up with micro scratches from wiping off a little pollen dust.

I can't speak for the long term in my Jeep, by my Lexus IS350 screen held up perfect for 6 years. Not a single scratch or blemish.

Unless you have ornaments on your dash/rearview mirror that could fall off, or children that could potentially throw something at the screen, I can't imagine why you'd need one.

I agree. Mine's over a year old and not a mark. I wipe it off with a damp microfiber cloth regularly to clean off the smudges, and it looks like new.

Re: Is screen protector needed for Nav system?

I bought a universal cut to fit screen protector and installed it the day after I took delivery. The one I got had grid lines on the peel off which made it super easy to cut it. I used an exacto knife and a straight edge ruler. Works perfect.

Re: Is screen protector needed for Nav system?

This is where I am going to get mine: Improved Display Function & Use - Films, Hoods, Cleaning | Photodon.com

They have 6 kinds of film (or more, too much of a choice) that can be custom sized for you.

Sample are here: Protective Film Samples | Photodon.com - Sample Pack of Screen Protectors

Custom sizes are here: Universal & Custom Size Screen Protector, Films| Photodon

There is actually something specific to UConnect: http://www.photodon.com/c/Built-In-Display-UConnect.htm but I am not sure this is the right size for 430N.

Re: Is screen protector needed for Nav system?

Nobody plans to scratch their screen. Accidents happen. I know it's not necessary, and I may survive 5 years w/o a scratch. However, $15 is nice "peace of mind". They are also great for reducing fingerprints/smudges.
