Is the 430 Radio any good?

Close to pulling the trigger on a 2011 limited with the v6, LuxII pkg, Adaptive Cruise, and Quadra Lift, but it has the 430 media radio without the Nav. I know when it comes down to it, I probably won't miss the nav function as today's phones provide quick mapping when needed , but is there anything else with this system to watch out for or does it work like the 430n and 730n media options? It seems that the 430 went away pretty quickly as an option.

Re: Is the 430 Radio any good?

The main thing I miss on the 430 radio is the lack of any GUI to go along with the uConnect system. I always have a hard time navigating through the voice commands.

The dash has plenty of space for my portable Garmin GPS so I don't miss not having the Nav.

Re: Is the 430 Radio any good?

i have read reviews where the voice command functions are not so good, but does that go for the 430n and 730n as well? in other words, don't the other units use the same voice tech?

Re: Is the 430 Radio any good?

There was a TSB that fixed and improved many of the 430n quirks, I hear its a pretty good fix, perhaps it also applies to the 430.

The 430n and 730n are made by two different vendors so the voice software and hardware are entirely different.

Re: Is the 430 Radio any good?

Never really had any issues with Uconnect and my 430 and I have a VERY deep southern voice. I did however, go through the "voice calibration" feature and it's been flawless since. I despise "factory" nav systems due to the price to upgrade maps each year. I use Google Nav and stream the audio through BT to the 430. Works great and no yearly upgrade fee.

Only issue I experienced recently (after 5 months of ownership)... Was commuting to work which is roughly a 1 hr drive. About half way through my drive, I switched audio sources over to the HDD. Listened to a few songs and at the moment I switched folders, the display went stupid. No artist/song info and no sound. Powered off the unit for a bit and still same problem. Got to work and obviously switched the ignition off for a few minutes. Upon power up, everything was back to normal. It's been fine ever since.

It's a fantastic radio with the latest TSB applied to the UConnect module. Ipod/IPhone integration works perfectly both when wired in, and when using the wireless stereo bluetooth A2DP profile. Voice dialing is fantastic, and I much prefer the built-in Garmin based navigation over the navigation in the 730n. I think people are a little hung up on the models numbers, and sometimes jump to the conclusion that a "730n" must be better than a "430n". The 430n fairs very will in a feature by feature comparison, while also offering the benefit of Garmin based Navigation.

He is asking opinions for the 430 not the 430n so navigation means nothing to him

Real men don't need navigation... they just know the way.
