is the 9 speaker upgrade option worth it?

I am just about ready to pick up a 2015 GC Altitude. The dealership has 2 left Black on Black and Billet Gray. I always looking for white but the billet gray in pictures looks amazing. I havent seen it in person yet as it is in dealer storage. They said they will bring it by before i purchase it. It has the altitude III package and the moonroof. I was really looking for one with the Backup Camera and 9 Speaker w/subwoofer. They are not able to find one at other local dealerships with all the options. They did say they can add the backup camera on at the dealership but not the speakers. With that said are the speakers worth it? or should i continue to make a deal on the one in stock?

is the 9 speaker upgrade option worth it?

I had a 2014 Altitude for about 6-8months. It had no options at all. My replacement 2015 has a backup camera, park assist, alpine audio and tow package. Now having all of these options (factory installed) to me make a huge difference in the overall driving experience. If I were you I'd go online and start searching dealers yourself and get the extra options. It will be worth the wait.

Re: is the 9 speaker upgrade option worth it?

I agree. I have a 2015 Altitude with all options. Try to find one. The Alpine system is definitely a step up considering the cost.

They may be able to add an aftermarket camera at the dealer, but what I don't think they can add is the rear park assist sensors which I rely on even more than the camera for distance proximity.

i think the alpine is a definite must. sounds amazing, especially with the clarity that sirius has. backup camera is a big help as there are a lot of blindspots ive noticed, and it makes backing into a spot a million times easier, plus if you add towing it will help with hooking up to trailer.

Re: is the 9 speaker upgrade option worth it?

Wow I totally disagree with above statements. The back up camera is important to me but the upgraded Alpine system is complete garbage. I'd rather start with a base system and not have this amp in my way. I have already replaced most of the alpine speakers as they are muffled. As long as they doing the back up camera for you I'd say go for it. And then just start replacing speakers if that matters to you. Then add amp. This spline system has made upgrade the system way more expensive.

^Id agree with Grand. I would have bought the rear cam/sensors if it was offered at time of purchase. I now have a Mopar backup cam so no harm no foul. I'll be upgrading all speakers in the future and adding a Stealhbox so I wouldn't have opted for the Alpine if it was offered.

Depends on how much time/money you want to spend on upgrading the stereo after you buy the vehicle.

Personally, I like the 9 speaker system in my 2012.
Trying to retrofit an equivalent speaker system would be a major PITA in both time and money.

You know the music is good/loud enough when the side mirrors are vibrating!!!! (Which I can do with the OEM 9 speaker system and I only have the bass 1 tick above neutral.)

Re: is the 9 speaker upgrade option worth it?

I heard that the 2012 speaker set up is better then the new 2015.
But I enjoy changing out the door speakers, there a a decent amount of threads here to help you with that. True I am $1200 in for my speaker upgrade with sub but it sounds great. The problem with the alpine system isn't how loud it goes but rather the quality and muffled sounds it produces.

Re: is the 9 speaker upgrade option worth it?

GrandAltitude, are you getting the great sound with just speaker swaps running off the Alpine Amp/DSP or have you changed the Amp? I see from one of your previous posts, you were going to go with Focal Integration ISS 690s for the front speakers. What about the sub? I do find the Alpine sub does nothing.

Not sure if this is the right thread for these questions, but I am interested.

is the 9 speaker upgrade option worth it?

At the time when I started looking for my replacement 2015 (May of this year) I noticed that every Altitude in my region had park sense and Alpine grouped together already. Not a single one had park sense without the alpine. I'm not sure why or if the alpine by default gets added in when you select park sense? Either way it's a nice addition having a semi "upgraded" audio system having just come from the base 6 speaker.

On a side note, for anyone with the Alpine system I'd recommend dynamatting the stock sub box... aka gas can. I did mine a few weeks ago and it made a big difference in bass response. It now sounds like I have an actual sub and not a muffled speaker tucked behind a panel. Just my .02!

You're right about the grouping of the Park Sense and Alpine. You can't have one without the other according to any Altitude spec sheets I've seen. I also came from a 6 speaker system to a fully loaded 15 Altitude, so I appreciate the sound system "semi upgrade".

Great advice on the sub. It is the weak link. I had to stick my head in the cargo areas just to confirm it was working. Now if I could only do something about the overbearing centre speaker.

Re: is the 9 speaker upgrade option worth it?

Greetings,

OP, my 2 cents:

It terms of sound quality, it solely depend on the person. That is how they perceive and appreciate the quality of sound. That is why here you have a mixed amount of views. I can tell for certain if you are an audiophile, this system is not for you. The other element you have to consider is whether a surround system is for you as oppose to the traditional front/rear/sub setup.

What I do like about the system as a surround setup, is the placement of the speaker locations. As a Sound Quality ("SQ") system, one pair of tweeters is all you need.

The best thing to do, is demo it with the music you like. Try it a showroom or friend that has one. This only way you are going to know for certain. As for my personal opinion, I gutted the entire system.

Best for now.
