Re: Issues with Sirius trial?

The vehicles are shipped to the dealer with the sirius activated so dealers can demo it, then when the car is reported sold by the dealer the sirius get activated with the 1 year subscription and the buyers information.

I stopped by my dealer today and the service manager took the time and called Sirius directly. The dealers have a special toll free number so they get get through faster. Sirius said that many receivers weren't programmed properly at the factory and that's why they are dropping the service. Hopefully my service along with the TravelLink will get back to normal by next week. Sirius service tech said they have to elevate the problem to the corporate office to get the 1 year trial along with the TravelLink approved. They gave me and my dealer a trouble ticket number so if need be, we can check on the progress. For now, they put the 3 month trial on my account to tide me over till the full package comes through.

I'll advise with any updates.

I would try that except I am receiving the 3 month trial right now.

Re: Issues with Sirius trial?

Just lost my subscription today after having only owned the Jeep for a few weeks. I tried creating an account online and re-sending the activation signal and it just tells me it is an invalid ID. Looks like I'll have to give the dealership a call tomorrow.

If you are signed up on the 3mo trial, the website won't be able to help. You can resend the activation symbol using the website but that won't get the right trial. Also my issue wasn't with the dealer's demo expiring because I registered my radio with Sirius and my trial was still only 3mo. Then they fixed it to 1yr, then broke it again, then had to fix it which took almost 2 weeks. If you are currently getting 3mo the dealership is about your only option, though you can start a ticket with Sirius yourself.

Re: Issues with Sirius trial?

Same here ... I spent over 2 hours on the phone with different people at Sirius. The last lady I spoke to set me up with a three month subscription and took all of the dealer information. They are going to 'supposedly' call the dealer and get it straightend out but I am NOT holding my breath.

Re: Issues with Sirius trial?

Well I had the dealership working with Sirius to fix my issue and now the radio finally shows on my Sirius online account, but the subscription is only for 3 months. I guess I will give it a week or 2 to see if it changes, if not I will be calling the dealership back to get this changed to 1 year as it should be! Shoot, I may juts do it today while this issue is fresh on their minds.

Re: Issues with Sirius trial?

Well this sucks! I was ok with living with the 3 month trial until both sides worked their shit out.....now the live traffic isn't working at all. It was working just fine, even with the 3 month trial. I called Sirius and they said the free trial is only audio and not the travel package. I asked if I could ad the travel package on my own, but they said I couldn't since I'm still in the trial period. I was told to have my dealer call them with the travel package ESN number which is different from the audio ESN number. This whole thing is such a mess and I have no idea why they can't get this worked out. I emailed my dealer and told him what to do. I'll let y'all know if anything good happens. Merry Christmas people!

Re: Issues with Sirius trial?

My Jeep was supposed to come with a 1 Year Trial period. So after I got the Jeep (Thanksgiving weekend) I called Sirius to see when the activation date was . . . last August. So the Sirius person said they would reset the date to November 27th. OK, that worked for a week. Then Sirius shut off completely. This time the person I spoke to at Sirius said my 1 Year subscription had expired. This is on a vehicle that didn't exist three months ago let alone a year ago but she couldn't do anything. So I asked to speak to her manager. He said he would turn it back on and would have someone up his food chain fix the initial date for the 1 Year Trial and that I would get a confirmation email to this effect. So now it's been another 3 weeks. Although it has been working without any further interruptions I never did get a confirmation email. Today (as in just now) I logged into Sirius and once I created an "Account" I was able to see that my expiration date is presently December 1, 2012. So I guess I'm a Happy Camper in that regard. All that said I'm not clear on why I would want to re-up next year. It looks to me as though it will cost about $180/Year to resubscribe to the services I presently have. If Sirius were competitive with Pandora I could see that. But at a cost that is five times what Pandora costs? . . . and customer service that (no offense to the folks I dealt with who were all very pleasant) is structured as a customer obstruction device . . . geez, I think these guys at Sirius are trying to base their pricing on their costs and the market has passed them by. I don't want to be looking the proverbial gift horse in the mouth, as it were, but Sirius definitely needs to revisit their business model before I'd be able to resubscribe with them.

Re: Issues with Sirius trial?

In early 2012 basic service (Sirius Select) rises to around $174 (ex-$155.40) per year. As always, Sirius Traffic and Sirius Premier are extra.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sirius is raising rates to push up earnings and thus their stock price, as usership has been flattening out. But they may drive enough users away to make the earnings picture worse rather than better, especially given their high ratio of fixed-to-variable costs.

This approach reflects the mindset of a monopolist. But just because they are the only satellite radio operation doesn't mean they have a lock on the market. There is cross-elasticity with non-satellite audio from cellular streaming, a growth market, to all manner of recorded media, to WiFi/recorded hybrids. After all, people are looking for content, not necessarily a certain type of delivery system, so price is central.

Re: Issues with Sirius trial?

Well I don't know about their pricing being indicative of a monopoly but their service sure as hell is. They screwed up the 1 year trial which I could forgive - but taking over a month to sort it out and incurring DOZENS of phone calls and emails from myself AND the dealer to fix it? Believe me, if there was another option I'd already be GONE. And this trial is supposed to SELL me on Sirius - not drive me away! I can get all the travel link data on my iPhone and stream internet radio pretty easily as well (and Sprint doesn't have data caps either).

Oh, and there is no way I would pay those prices. I ended up letting my contract expire on my last car (VW) and within a month I was signed back up at something like $75-80 for a year. $155 is a joke and only a sucker would take it. That is like paying cover price for magazine subscriptions. Let it expire and suddenly you're getting 50-90% off to get you back!
