Issues with USB Port for IPod/Flash Drive

I have the 2015 Jeep GC Overland and I've noticed an issue with the USB port under the radio that is supposed to be used for an IPod connection and Flash Drive connection.

What happens is that this sometimes "locks up" for lack of a better term, and the IPod won't play or recognize. Also, the whole radio locks up at that point not allow any sound out on the radio. Actually the knob doesn't even register that I'm trying to adjust the volume.

What I have to do turn the car off open the door and restart the car to make the radio come back and then sometimes the IPod comes back. I thought it was the USB cable so I swapped that too, same issue. Sometimes it doesn't play where I left off and it will play the first song in my IPod and I need to go back.

I have the same lockup issue if switching to the USB Flash Drive as well sometimes, although the USB works better and more consistently.

I don't use the Bluetooth because my phone is on the Bluetooth.

Has anyone else run into this, or have any ideas? Do I have a faulty USB port?

Thanks! Love the site. Be kind to the Noob!

Re: Issues with USB Port for IPod/Flash Drive

I don't enjoy it when it puts my phone into iPod mode, it gets a little annoying and off with the contril. I don't use a USB stick, I do use a 64GB SDXC card though as it takes up less room. I have never had an issue with playabck.

For lock ups, keep this info on you, for me it's in my phones notes.

Uconnect Re-boot:
Hold Mute and Tune buttons for reboot.
This makes no changes to your settings, it is just a reboot procedure.

Uconnect Factory reset:
Hold temp up and down buttons to access engineering menu.
This will wipe all of your personal settings and take it back to factory default. It will also load with the SRT and take several minutes to hours before it will look the same as it did before.

Re: Issues with USB Port for IPod/Flash Drive

I tried 3 different SD cards couldn't get them to format. I wanted to go that route.

But I still think there is an issue with using the IPod with the cable thru the USB port.

What do you mean you couldn't get them to format?
Both FAT32 and NTFS formats work.

I use this card:

I have had 3 other cards in there with success on all of them.

Re: Issues with USB Port for IPod/Flash Drive

You can't save files to an unformatted card... so can you save files to your card with your computer? If not, there is no point taking it to your car as it is a reader only.

Apologies if I misunderstanding the problem, but it's not exactly clear either!

Cheers,
Steve
