JGC Map Update

I am sure this topic has been beaten to death, but I have a 2015 JGC that I purchased new in November 2014. The FCA site says that the 2 year old 2014 map is still current. I own a Garmin portable GPS with lifetime updates and I am up to 2017.2 for the US. I can't believe they are 3 years behind without an update. Has anyone been able to find out if FCA plans to issue an update for maps in the GPS in the WK2?

Based on what I've read out here... don't hold your breath for one. And when they do, expect to pay dearly for it.

Stick with your Garmin.

Re: JGC Map Update

The update cd for the previous gen units is $149 and can be a pain. I'm pretty sure it's also behind. It still amazes me that fiat/Heep puts out a $50k vehicle with poor support like this, it should be easier. Most dealers here don't seem interested in doing the updates. My logic is that I'll have the jeep for a while and the few times I've used it recently for directions have sent me down two dead ends. I give. Jeep gives up a lot when it comes to certain things. With the 8.4 I think you should have it easier, should, like you pull into a dealer and say "here's my $200 bill" and you hear "no problem sir"

Re: JGC Map Update

Until Android Auto/Apple CarPlay dominates the dashboard, expect garbage like this. It's always been like this on all the brands I've been around. The NAV the vehicle ships with is passable at the time of sale. After that they may offer you to buy an overpriced update and then your SOL.

Re: JGC Map Update

Greetings,

This is the said truth about the OE navi systems that are designed this way. Unfortunately, the folks over FCA have not seen the light, they are still in the cave-man-era.

Whether you prefer off-line or on-line navi, there is a lot of stuff out their that puts the Uconnect to shame. At least other manufactures (just a few now) that are not into either CarPlay or Android Auto, have methods of updating the OE systems both software and the map database.

At least now, everybody has the option of going to a an aftermarket solution. As time goes by, better looking aftermarket headunits will be out on the market for those who care about appearance.

Best for now.

JGC Map Update

My mother likes my Jeep, she drives more and better than me too, and she's in her 70's. She'd like to have an SUV as a third car. I'll explain to her that in order to have a current nav and interface she has to download and burn something, then order a second disc and install it, there's also a chance she'll brick it? Her answer will be "so another company will do this for me at the dealer?"

It's not life altering or that significant a difference in the display but if she where sent on the wild goose chase I was in Miami that dead ended at a many year out of date closed off railroad crossing. She'd have made the bmw dealer her next stop and written off anything made by fiat forever, and shredded the mail just to make sure the stench of stupid doesn't rub off.

Yes OE nav's aren't world class but this is dumb, I like my nav I simply wish I could upgrade it easily and effectively, by telling the tech to do it.
Yes CarPlay will be great, she has an iPhone, but not for her still. She'd pay for all this, I can do it but won't. Those of you that will download and do these steps are a tiny minority of owners, you're all just here at the same time, people should have to do jack except pay unless they want to.
Jeep dealers down here sat in the back of the class.

I did this update too, but as far as I can tell it is only a software update, not a map update.

Waiting....cuz the maps are about 5 years out of date.

Re: JGC Map Update

The last word from HERE is that a new map update will be out sometime between now and the end of the year. Of course, we know how that goes.
