All just installed jl stealth box in my summit. I'm having a issue when the doors are closed and even when sound is off I get almost like a droning sound from the sub every couple of seconds. When the doors are open it functions perfectly fine. My installer tapped into the factory sub wires. He thinks it has to do with active noise canceling. Has anyone had any experience with this or any suggestions?

Thank you

Greetings,

Are you using an aftermarket amp to drive it and if so, which model amp?
Also, do have the 9 speaker Alpine or the 19 speaker Hk OE system?

Best for now.:)

Ahh, first victim of the new for '15 Active Noise Cancelling system.....

without a doubt this is the first spot to drill into, cutting into a multichannel setup like that can be tricky..

from Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Active Noise Cancellation

Operation

The Active Noise Control (ANC) module performs the creation of signals appropriate to cancel engine order related vehicle noises from the engine. It creates these signals in proportion to the Engine RPM plus any other needed input.

The ANC module obtains the engine RPM from the vehicle Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

The signals that the ANC module creates includes at least four simultaneous signals equivalent to sine wave frequencies in designated ratios tracking the engine RPM, to cancel engine order related noises, plus other optional signals that can enhance the cancellation effect.

To maintain the effectiveness of the noise cancellation over the full range of vehicle operating conditions and seating locations, the ANC module has four outputs and process signals from four microphone assemblies located in the headliner.

The ANC module supports mixing the four ANC signals into any output channel at a point after all of the signal processing required

The ANC module operates on vehicle battery power and has its state of operation controlled by CAN-B bus messages.

In addition to performing active noise cancellation, the ANC module supplies power to the loudspeakers.

Greetings,

To make matters worse, the HK OE amp power supply is not based on the traditional 14.4 volt range, instead it based on a 32 volt range.

Do you know how the installer wired the output of the factory amp's speaker wires into the RF amp? Did he combine the 2 ohm (4 wires) into 1 pair or did he use a hi-lo rca convertor? Find out.

If their is a filter for this, it could cost over $100.00. A ground isolation transformer might or might not work. This is complete different from the problem with cable TV when you get the buzz in the sub. In that application, you use a product from the manufacture Jensen, I used to force the cable company to supply them back in the day.

You might also want to try Parts-express, at least they might be able to point you in the right track.

hello... Originally I used a 2 channel hi/lo converter. I didn't combine the 2 positives and 2 negatives of the hi/lo nor the outputs of the factory amp. Tried using only one set of outputs from the amp into the high/lo, same result. Next I removed the hi/lo and tried using the speaker level inputs to the RF amp; same result. Tried taping into the right rear speaker using the speaker level inputs to the rf amp, same result.

Don't believe using any sort of noise filter/ground loop isolator will do anything as the noise is not caused by a grounding issue.

Have any other info on the 32 volt range setup you mentioned?

Thank you

Why shut off the ANC system? It is a great feature! Either way, glad there is a guinea pig here. I'd be interested in a stealth box upgrade down the road if it has significant sound improvement and could be used in conjunction with ANC.

Greetings,

Open microphones, which are live, that are not properly setup will cause feedback. Believe me, I know all about that.

The question becomes, if you cut out the microphones, what will it affect with in the rest of the GC.

Best for now.:)

If I were to get a '15, I'd disconnect the microphones or find the module and disconnet from there. I'm sure it'll throw some kind of error when connected to a scanner but can't see it affecting anything else.
Definitely interested in hearing the outcome of this, sorry for the partial hi-jack.

Not sure a "module" can b disabled as power to rest of syatem also is supplied by ANC....Depends on how u disconnect.. Clip so circuit is open or loop to close it...not sure how ANC logic in DSP will handle either.

I also just went through this on my 15 summit with the hk. I added a audison amp and jl audio 12w6. I was getting humming from the sub after install. Thought I could live with it but nope, disconnected the front 2 mics and put double sided tape over the rears. Works perfectly now and sounds amazing. I also upgraded the 3.5" and tweeters in the front door. Huge difference. Was gonna add new 6x9s but they are crossed over like a sub. Only bass coming from them.

2 in the front located above your head and the front passengers head. The 2 in the back are above the cargo area. Headliner is easy to pull down. Held on with velcro. I did wanna pull to mich on the back headliner so i just pulled out the mics and put the double sided tape over. Real easy and quick. That way if I ever go back to using i just gotta rip the tape off. Fronts are easy to disconnect as they are right there.

For future use, I just had some amps installed in my 15 Summit with HK radio and disconnected the front microphones. The installer didn't even touch the back mics. No odd noises here. In fact, without the aftermarket stuff I used to get loud pops after opening the doors sometimes to get into the Jeep, now there are no noises. Maybe it was caused by a problem with the ANC system and with the front mics disconnected it is disabled now? I don't notice it's gone so no problems here.
