It was a surprised to get this in the mail for free, already in the process in updating it now.
message said you can turn off your Jeep, but I don't recommend it - it took about 30 minutes to get it loading again with warning message like nav not found, Jeep logo splash page etc..., i thought i bricked my radio.
it just came in the mail automatically, maybe just for the 2012...?
it looks like an one time thing, i had to register on their website for an activation code for the 2012 maps and then enter it on the touch screen in the Jeep - just like installing Office on your PC when a disc is inserted.
it does erase all your user settings and radio preferences too.
make sure your ignition power is on - engine not running, not the accessory because it can still turn off and you'll be in a world of hurt when it's updating
*Eligible vehicles for the complimentary update include certain vehicles manufactured between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2012 equipped with a Uconnect 730N. The Uconnect 730N has a 3 letter code of RHR in the lower right hand corner of the face of the radio. Vehicles equipped with the RHR Navigation system can

The question is how to get the promo code...it references a letter or email; neither of which I have received as of this date. My 2012 Summit should qualify based on the manufacturing date range...
Going through the hoops at that site, it appears that (our) RHR will get a free map update later this Fall. The catch is that while it says this, our 2012 Overland was built late August of 2011, so it should be less up to date than the ones being covered for updating. Unless I'm missing something...
Go figure.
Further thought: If the update is truly current, it should have the new Rt. 202 Parkway in Pennsylvania's central Bucks County that's built but won't officially open for several days.
I had to keep hitting the start key every 10 minutes or so so it would not shut off - took about an hour to install - it locked up a few times but finally went, not so smooth. I was nervous at first but all was fine once it finished
I installed yesterday with ignition set to 'run.' The Jeep still timed out and turned off -- about every 25 or 30 minutes, I'd guess. But the radio didn't shut off immediately, so I just turned the Jeep back on each time with no hiccup in the progress of the install. Freaked me out the first time it happened, though.
So far, I haven't noticed any real differences. My GPS home location and radio presets are there, which is great, but it's not like they disappeared every day -- so I won't know for a while whether that bug is fixed.
Maybe I'm misremembering, but I thought I had read somewhere that the software upgrade broke the ability to use Siri via UConnect. I'm happy to report that doesn't seem to be the case for me.
I emailed Jeep Canada the other day, and asked about GPS updates. She gave me a phone # to contact, Navtech or something like that. She had my VIN which was built January 2012, but no freebie mentioned. Since mine was a Demo, I am not the original owner and dealer never change database after 3 months and 2 requests. This why I had to call Jeep Canada. Maybe the dealer got it Ottawa Dodge sucks at customer service
Does the letter come from dealership or directly from Jeep? My Jeep order date was 01/14/2012 and ship date was 02/17/2012, which means I should be getting the Nav update promo code in the mail.
I don't have mine in front of me but it definitely wasn't from the dealership. It had the Chrysler Jeep and Dodge logos on the letterhead so I assume from corporate.
