You're welcome! Totally is!

I already upgraded the radio to a Pioneer headunit, but It's a small screen and no nav. So in the coming 2-3 months I'll be upgrading to a 7" Alpine and installing the OEM backup camera. I will (try) to document the project as I go along!

Re: Kenwood Nav Upgrade

Greetings,

The differences between the Kenwood DNX890HD and Alpine INE-W927-HD really comes down to this. The Kenwood uses the Garmin for the GPS and preouts are rated for 5 volts. The Alpine uses IGO Primo for the GPS and preouts are rated for 4 volts.

Bottom line, which GPS do you like and the preouts is not a deal breaker.

Best for now.

Greetings,

Depending upon the Eclipse unit, they used to use either TomTom (AVN4430) or IGO Primo (AVN726E). Last time I listen to the Eclipse 726E, the audio was pretty impressive.

Best for now.

Install Complete! Photos Attached

I have finished the install. I have uploaded some photos including how to integrate the factory backup camera.

We stripped the outer coating on the green/brown and green/orange wires. Then soldered on an rca (yes it was red, it's all I had). This allows for me to put it back to stock if I decided to take out the stereo. The backup camera works great. Pandora Control is awesome (I am still working on a Pandora bluetooth bug) but once I figure that out this will be the perfect stereo.

Really enjoying it so far. I'll update with some more photos once I get a hang of it.

Re: Kenwood Nav Upgrade

Oh yeah one downside to this stereo is that without modifying the surrounding dash the flip down face can't open. This isn't a big deal to me because I use all digital media and have no use for the dvd slot. (I put one in before the install and that will be the only one in there). Modding the dash isn't worth it to me but others might want to know that. This is the Kenwood Excelon DNX890HD.

Awesome! Please do post more pictures.

Why exactly won't it slide down? What does it hit?

Re: Kenwood Nav Upgrade

When the face starts to fold open the top hits the jeeps plastic and can't open. there is only about 1 or 2 mm of space. I guess if you set it out a little further from the dash it would work, but like I said I would rather have the clean look since I don't use dvd's. Crutchfield had great tech support but no real suggestions about this.

Right on. Well that's a bummer, but like you I haven't used a cd in a car for years so not a deal breaker. Thanks for the write up.

Re: Kenwood Nav Upgrade

capric621 can you please post more pictures of it? I'm curious about how well (or not) or integrates into the dash. Thanks!

That sounds really interesting, hopefully I won't be too cheap to go this route. Wifi is a no brainer requirement for a dash unit in this day. I'm just starting to look for something and having a hard time differentiating between them all and this just made it that much easier.
