Lightbar Camera with aftermarket radio?

In lieu of doing a wireless rear view camera, I am considering the OEM lightbar camera; however, I have an aftermarket radio ( Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX ).

Does anyone know if that camera will work with aftermarket head units?

Maybe something like that?
You only need 12V and that's it. Works on iphone or android.
It will look better on the iphone obviously :P

That looks cool, but I want to use the AVICs screen and not have to deal with my phone...

Re: Lightbar Camera with aftermarket radio?

Found this as an easy way to add a backup camera without taking all the panel off, plus you are running an aftermarket unit so even better. I found these transmitters receivers on amazon and eBay for a decent price so I figured give it a shot. If the quality was bad, I was going to run the wire. The cam I mounted to the brow where the factory cam goes and powered the transmitter to the reverse light power. Results are pretty good.

Excellent find. And I can't believe how low priced it is?!

Does it cut out or do you have any problems at all?

Also, where/how did you mount the cam under the light bar?

Re: Lightbar Camera with aftermarket radio?

I also see that cam came from China. Did it take quite a while to arrive?

Re: Lightbar Camera with aftermarket radio?

Shipping could be a gamble when it comes to chinese orders. My camera took a little over a week which isn't terrible. The wifi tx/rx set I found on Amazon locally. I found those links as examples, I'm sure you can find the same devices in the us for a few bucks more.
The quality is pretty good for what it is. I see a little flickering briefly if it has to adjust when it's dark out. Never been a problem though. 95% of the time it is very clear. Some camera have proximity lines, some don't. Be mindful of that.
To mount i took off the rear brow. There are lots of instructions through the forums. Pop open the lift fate and remove the inside trim pieces. You'll have to get to the reverse lights anyways. To mount, you really just need to drill a small 3/8in hole, depending on the cam and I put some locktite and silicone to seal. Attached to power and strapped the transmitter so it wasn't floating around and was in good range of the receiver behind the radio. Pretty straight forward.

Sounds pretty straight forward.

Where did you mount the transmitter in the back?

And shoving the receiver I. The dash behind the radio wasn't a problem?

Re: Lightbar Camera with aftermarket radio?

Tons of room behind the radio for the receiver. The transmitter I wire tied to the a metal support bar under the lift gate trim near the cavity for the reverse tail lights. Lots of room there too. The tx/rx set is pretty small

Re: Lightbar Camera with aftermarket radio?

Thanks again for all of the info and hopefully these are the last 2 questions:

I read that the receiver at the radio needs power also. What did you tie into for that?

Did you have enough wire to run from the camera to the transmitter (ie, it came with enough)?

Re: Lightbar Camera with aftermarket radio?

No worries. I hooked the receiver up to the switched power that feeds the radio. The camera should come with plenty of wire to attached to the transmitter.

Side note: which radio harness are you using and did you tie in your steering wheel controls. I have a PAC c2r-chy4 and the swi-rc unit. Have the radio working great but having difficulty programming the steering controls. Putting a call into PAC soon

Re: Lightbar Camera with aftermarket radio?

I have the Maestro - worked great (I had to program it with my computer first) and all controls are functional.
