I am actually thinking about updating mine too, but the two hours of updating time is cray cray. Almost like using dialup to download a movie, back in the day.

The process does take a long time, but will restart if the vehicle automatically turns off power (about 30 minutes when "key" is at "run" without the engine running. You can just set a timer and go out to turn the vehicle back on. Or plan on doing the upgrade while you are driving somewhere. You will not be able to us the radio, etc., while it's updating, but drive time gets the job done, too. I certainly wouldn't recommend you leave your engine running all that time...

Re: Map Update Process!!

I just updated my 430N with a Garmin update. I left it running while I detailed the interior. Vacuumed, windows, cleaned and conditioned leather. Took 1hr 45mins to complete all 4 stages of the update.
I went on a trip and in SC where the speed limit was 65 and the nav said 70. It also was incorrect in some 45mph zones. It says the newest 2014 update, but I haven't contacted them yet to see what's the deal.

Re: Map Update Process!!

I just put the disc in and went out to do some errands. I think total time for the update on my 2013 was about 1.5 hrs of drive time. I shut the engine off multiple times and restarted without issue. You just don't have access to any radio features.

Bought the wife a Garmin Nuvi for her car for around $200 with lifetime updates. No need to update the Jeep's Navy system now.

Garmin puts out some nice units. I have an older NUVI 750 and can load topo and custom maps, do trip and route planning on my desktop and upload to the NUVI or store them on an SD card. Sure wish my GC nav had those features, I might use it more. Planning a trip or route on the GC nav is just plain painful.

Oh, so you can actually go about your business and turn the car off/on during the process?

Re: Map Update Process!!

I had no issues. The screen stays blacked out after you shut it off so just give it time to finish and you'll be fine.

Yes...it will continue the process from wherever it was when you shut off the vehicle to do whatever once you start up again.

Re: Map Update Process!!

Well, after several attempts to update my Navteq maps and continuing to fail even though I kept opening the door to keep the accessory timeout from happening. After several attempts, the screen locked up with the JEEP Uconnect image showing.

I gave up and started all over with the engine idling. It took every bit of 2 hours to complete the update. The coolant temperature showed 224°s and I was not comfortable with that. Turning on the air conditioner caused the temp to drop to and stay at 204°.

Would I buy the update again at $170(includes 2-day shipping)? I don't know as I haven't used it yet. Maybe if I hadn't wasted all that time trying to do it without running the engine….?

Hope this helps someone.

Dan

Re: Map Update Process!!

What makes me mad is that right after I took delivery of mine, the speed limits changed from 65 to 70 so every time I drive, it is wrong. I called Jeep to see if they would issue an update free and was told no way! New Garmins have updates free for life and Jeep doesn't?

Re: Map Update Process!!

Well, it seems it's NOT an update for my 2013 JGC Overland Uconnect system. I haven't seen anything new.

It's still extremely difficult to input an address/destination. It took me about 45 minutes 😔 to input a future trip to the Western Motel in Folkston, Ga for their railroad /train celebration. It wouldn't let me enter a 4 digit street number. After entering 3 numbers, it just showed a blank screen. I was finally able to input just the city and since it's so small, finding the motel shouldn't be a problem.

As others have said, standalone Garmins are far and away easier and faster to use. I have one but I've run out of 12v sources so I was looking forward to using the built in navigation system.

Don't buy it and no, it's not returnable.
