The reason for the update being for vehicles built prior to 1-2012 is becuse the vehicles built after that already have the update in them.
MAP is a newer profile and as with anything new will have some bugs that need to be fixed by both the car kit companies as well as the phone companies. Uconnect is built to BTSIG specs which are not always adhered to by the phone companies. They like to try to do things different if they can. The BT specs are tightly regulated so they do get twisted and with the twist, it may or may not work.
You didn't mention what phone that you have so I can't offer any suggestions yet. However, I can say that on most of the phones that I have tried lately, there is a request to download messages dialog box that comes up a minute or so after the request to download the phonebook comes up. Depending on how many contacts that you have in you pb, it could take a minute or so before the MAP request box comes up. If you don't accept the request, then Uconnect will tell you that SMS ids not supported by that phone.
Now I have tried a few phones that can receive messages fine but won't send them. Uconnect will let you choose a message to send but after you try to send it, Uconnect will reply "sending of text message failed".
I have also seen where that message would be said by Uconnect but the message would still go thru. The phone needs to reply back to uconnect that the message has been sent within a time frame and if Uconnect doesn't getthat message from the phone, then Uconnect assumes that it wasn't sent, and gives that "sending of message failed" response.
So just because you have a new phone that says it supports something, it's possible that it doesn't support it correctly according to specs.
