Hello:

I have been test driving mid to large size SUV's the past 3 weeks and I fell in love with the new GC Overland (WKJS74 , HEMI, 730N RHR). The one that I test drove has the new 730 RHR media center. I test drove it 2 times. The second time, I focused on the electronics (I have an iPhone 4). I was able to link up my phone (via bluetooth) without any issues, however I was never able to access my phone book. Does it take a while for the contacts to load up? I noticed that was the case in some of the other SUV's I drove. I then connected the phone to the iPod cable. I found the cable to be very thick which made it hard to neatly tuck away my phone in the compartment. The media center had no problems detecting my music. I went for a drive on my own. On the way back, a call came in. I could not hear the person calling but they could hear me.. I disconnected the phone ( from the iPod cable) and had my buddy call me back. The bluetooth worked adequately with the iPod cable disconnected. When I plugged it back in. Same problem. The dealer said it was probably an isolated issue, and since I loved the GC so much, I put a deposit on it with the colors I liked. The dealer called a few days later and told me that it was an ongoing issue, the manufacturer was aware of the it and was working on the problem. My questions are: Do the contacts take a while to load up via bluetooth? Does the 703N RHR have bluetooth audio ( meaning you can play a song from your iPhone through Bluetooth)? Has anyone else experienced the same issue while the iPod cable is docked? How is Chrystler about resolving issues like this?? I have not received the vehicle and I am already starting to have second thoughts about this. I love my technology and cannot stomach paying so much for a new vehicle with issues before I even get it...

If the unit had the thick cable in the console compartment under the HVAC controls then it's not the RHR, it's the RER. Both are called 730N (quite confusing, they should have renamed the new unit). The RER without the latest upgrade has the exact issues you describe.

No, what he said on the last post was HIS ORDER says $465. The first post was about a vehicle HE TESTED, not the one he ordered.

The RHR uses the USB port in the armrest, just like the RHB (430N). The RER uses the iPod specific interface in the center console. From his comments about the thickness of the cable (and that one actually existed) I'm assuming the vehicle he test drove had the RER version of the 730N.

jcnaranjo: Can you go back and double check which radio was in the car you tested? AFAIK the only way to tell the difference between the 730N-RER and the 730N-RHR is by looking at the code in tiny letters on the bottom right of the faceplate (or via connection cable)...the faceplate will say "RHR" if it is the updated unit. The sticker doesn't specify beyond 730N, and from what I've read here and talking with dealers it is difficult to tell specific model in the computers. There is a lot of confusion in the marketplace about this issue as has been discussed a lot on this forum.

I've been waiting for a RHR to hit dealer lots here so I can thoroughly test it like you did. Although I don't actively use an iPhone anymore I still plan to use one as an iPod for music and use my Android-based HTC phone with contact sync for voice so I want to make sure all of that and the voice command features work well before I commit. Car tech is very important to me as well and this is one thing that has held me back from ordering/buying a WK2 so far.

This is the first post I've read on this forum of someone actually reporting use of the Media Center 730N-RHR so I'm also thinking you may have been using the RER. Several forum members are still anxiously awaiting delivery of their WK2 with the RHR any day now...production of the updated radio supposedly started January 12.

I think another way to tell is by looking at the phone button (2nd from the top on the right side). The RER has a U-connect icon next to the phone icon, and the RHR only has the phone icon. This is helpful when looking at photos on dealer websites. I keep scouring them looking for any pictures of interface changes, and to get an idea if the graphics are improved like Milous states on the WK2Jeeps site. Still no luck with that though.

I also went thru the Apple U Connect trials before ordering my Overland. The 730 RER with the thick cable did work fine on the test vehicle. When I placed my order, the 730 was an "option" but I could not order anything else. I just got my Overland last week and it has the 730 RHR with the USB port in the arm console (no port in the forward console). With my Iphone 4, bluetooth calls work (still have not seen the phone book come up) and bluetooth music streaming works. Bluetooth streaming just plays whatever music is playing on the phone - all the controls are on the phone. You can only pause or play from the 730. I have not been able to connect reliably with the USB cable. Sometimes it connect, but will not play - othertimes it will not connect at all. The dealer mentioned a problem like this when I was test driving and they had solved it by replacing a module (power module) with a later version and it was then fixed. I have a call into them today to try and get the same fix - I'll post an update when I have a more definitive answer.

Took 6-7 weeks to get mine. Getting around 15mpg to/from work with the V8.

Hi, I have an ipod touch (1st gen)- was working fine at first now all of a sudden not. It sees the device but it will not play. I have reset the ipod and turned the unit on and off. Also tried from usb port on radio- same results. At first when I went to the AUX screen I saw "stopped" on the screen in red letters- now that is gone. Any ideas?
Thanks

I've just about given up on iPod/iPhone integration for music in the Jeep. I'm now putting music on my android phone which the RHR sees as a USB drive and plays just fine. Just get a cheap thumb drive...it will be easier. Screw apple and it's difficult integration. (as I type this on my iPad!)

Since my last post on this thread, I abandoned my Overland order and picked up a Summit with 8 miles on it with the RHR. I can say that I have had minimal issues with it. I have been upgrading my iPhone 4 OS as new ones come out. I am currently running OS 4.3.3 and have no issues with it connecting or reading data using the armrest USB. Everything works adequately, however album artwork shows up in some songs and doesn't in others ( a little frustrating but not a huge deal IMO). The song name and artist displays all the time. Bluetooth streaming works as advertised. Bluetooth calling works great. Clear sound on my end and everyone hears me clearly. The only gripe about Bluetooth calling is that the contacts download without the addresses.
