I just looked into it. It is not what I thought it was, but I hope it does what it is supposed to.

"The Active Noise Cancellation system is designed to address the change in exhaust noise whenever the vehicle is operating in Fuel Economy Mode (ECO) or 4 cylinder mode."

A lot of folks have been questioning that description for years. If it's tuned to the MDS exhaust noise at some RPM why would it even need Mics !!! It would just be pre-canned cancelation signal based on RPM.

There are other descriptions by Jeep that talk about road noise cancelation.

Does this give you the impression of MDS Exhaust Noise cancelation?

The Mics imply it's dynamic/adaptive of some sort like most Noise Cancelation Systems.

I believe this makes sense. The noise from the MDS would vary based on more than RPMs. ECO mode also causes noise by straining the engine by upshifting early and downshifting late.

The only thing I remember reading about road noise had to do with acoustic glass. If you have any other links regarding this, please point me toward them.

Why in the Video do they "Change" the environment to stress that it dynamically is listening to the environment. The Noise the Jeep generates would be the same no matter where it is. The Video is about Active Noise Cancelation (not acoustic glass).

Quote "Turn any Street (a Quiet one or a Noisy one) into a Symphony with Active Noise Cancelation".

Now that is the Marketing Group that put that together and might technically not know what it actually does.
But that Video implies it adjusts to the environment, as do most Active Noise Cancelation systems.

I am never sure what or why Jeep does or says things. My build sheet says "Bright License Plate Brow" and "Overland-Summit Badge".

What I noticed in the video was that the construction noise was reduced as she closed the window.

I do know that with my Overland the only noise that really bothered me was from the MDS. So I hope they did deal with that.

I did take a look at the HK site, and it would indicate that it deals with road noise. But they also talk about the 4 microphones and 4 other things (I forget the name) mounted in the chassis that actually deal with the noise.

I'm tired, my brain is shutting down ... Good Night!

We'll look into this more tomorrow.

Active Noise Cancelation can't run with windows open obviously.
There might be some unique challenges with the noise generated by MDS, exhaust that they also addressed in addition to typical noise cancelation.

But now that I think about it. Wonder why the Mics are not on the outside.

I read all the Harmon articles too. Some other cool stuff they do on Range Rovers.

In any event the car is very quiet. I'm sure there will be plenty of V8 Summits coming on line to ask opinion on MDS noise soon.

I also plan to poke and prod the Active Noise Cancelation to better understand what the heck it is doing.

If they keep moving mine along I should be able to judge it for myself pretty soon. Tracking shows Estimated Delivery "09/11/2016 - 09/17/2016".

Please post links to any good info you find. As you know it is kind of difficult to nail anything down.

Did that first thing. I had read that before, I believe in one of your posts.

It may not be the Alpine system that sounds bad it is the music source. Here is what I have done to improve the sound, it doesn't cost a thing IMHO the sound results are night and day. This is for RECORDED music only. Most of the music I listen to I have recorded off (You Tube videos) I have 1000s of recorded songs on my flash drive.

Hopefully this process won't be to complicated for a non-musical person but I will break it down the best I can.

1) Download the song you want from a You Tube video. To do that go to the You tube video you want and copy the URL then go to peggo Peggo - YouTube to MP3 Converter, Internet DVR this website downloads your You Tube video and converts it into a music file as an mp3. Just copy and paste the You Tube video URL into the box on the peggo website. Once download it is now on your PC as a music file mp3

Since mp3 music files are compressed they don't sound that great they need to be converted to a wav file. (A wav file is a music file that is in its full format nothing is compressed)

2) Now I downloaded a music program (free) I use audacity Audacity® With this program you can now remix the song.

3) Import your song into this program an make adjustments in the equalizer section. Increase the volume level and whatever other adjustments you want. I usually just increase volume level and add a bit more bass.

4) Once you’ve done this click on file / export audio. It will save the music file now as a wav file to your pc.

5) Copy the song from your pc to your flash drive. If you raised the volume output (amplify) in the program it should be almost double as loud as XM or FM music sources with no distortion. All the frequencies of the music will come alive with pure clean audio, thumping bass, crystal clear highs etc.

If nothing else from instructions (1 )you can now get free music off You Tube. Also just by converting an MP3 to Wav file will sound much better in the Alpine system. XM and FM stereo are compressed files and will never sound as good as a wav file. So if your trying to get the Alpine system to sound better playing XM IMO you are throwing your money away.

The only problem with this is the mp3 file is crap to start with, sooo what I do is use Audacity and record the youtube file real time in Audacity because I feel the version that they have in the video is not the mp3 but whatever was uploaded this way I can save it as a wav file in Audacity as opposed to the mp3 download crap, you can thank Apple for most of this happening by the way. It would be nice if Chrysler would get with the program and have radios that play lossless files. Something else I have done with mine is use the aux in and use a high quality player like FIO etc which have DA's in them that can play 24bit files the big pain with this is you dont get the browse music capability through the radio and lose some of the steering wheel controls like track selection.
