My Alpine system ROCKS Here's why!!

I've been reading all the complaints about the Alpine 9+1. A lot of unhappy Jeep owners not happy with the sound quality of the system and spending big bucks on new speakers, power amps etc.

It may not be the Alpine system that sounds bad it is the music source. Here is what I have done to improve the sound, it doesn't cost a thing IMHO the sound results are night and day. This is for RECORDED music only. Most of the music I listen to I have recorded off (You Tube videos) I have 1000s of recorded songs on my flash drive.

Hopefully this process won't be to complicated for a non-musical person but I will break it down the best I can.

1) Download the song you want from a You Tube video. To do that go to the You tube video you want and copy the URL then go to peggo Peggo - YouTube to MP3 Converter, Internet DVR this website downloads your You Tube video and converts it into a music file as an mp3. Just copy and paste the You Tube video URL into the box on the peggo website. Once download it is now on your PC as a music file mp3

Since mp3 music files are compressed they don't sound that great they need to be converted to a wav file. (A wav file is a music file that is in its full format nothing is compressed)

2) Now I downloaded a music program (free) I use audacity AudacityŽ With this program you can now remix the song.

3) Import your song into this program an make adjustments in the equalizer section. Increase the volume level and whatever other adjustments you want. I usually just increase volume level and add a bit more bass.

4) Once you’ve done this click on file / export audio. It will save the music file now as a wav file to your pc.

5) Copy the song from your pc to your flash drive. If you raised the volume output (amplify) in the program it should be almost double as loud as XM or FM music sources with no distortion. All the frequencies of the music will come alive with pure clean audio, thumping bass, crystal clear highs etc.

If nothing else from instructions (1 )you can now get free music off You Tube. Also just by converting an MP3 to Wav file will sound much better in the Alpine system. XM and FM stereo are compressed files and will never sound as good as a wav file. So if your trying to get the Alpine system to sound better playing XM IMO you are throwing your money away.

'Seems to me that taking a compressed format that's already incurred losses to an uncompressed format isn't going to restore the missing information. Think how much better this would be after you process the file if your source wasn't already compressed...

Re: My Alpine system ROCKS Here's why!!

Maybe my ears just aren't as sensitive or I'm just not as picky anymore, but the Alpine system does fine for me.

Spent well over $4500 on my last setup in my previous vehicle, and of course there is a difference, but I'm not sure it's worth that much to me to try and replicate it in the JGC.

You do raise a good point about missing information, I found that by raising volume levels and bumping the lows a bit does give the music a lot more punch. Does sound much better then XM.

Source is important for sure with the alpine and HK systems but the alpine systems speakers suck changing them out for infinity reference all around proved that to me

"Strings and cans" would sound better than XM!! LOL They will never get any of my money...or listening time.

Seriously, the better you improve the source, the better the sound will be. That say, I'm perfectly happy with the quality of sound I get when streaming via BlueTooth from both the Music app on my iPhone and the WXPN.org streaming service. In fact, on my MY12, listening via the streaming app is noticeably better audio quality than direct FM for my station when that signal is available. Crisper, clearer and better bottom end.

Agree with that I'm about to just drop xm, terrible compressed sound quality, Bluetooth streaming from Pandora is an unbelievable improvement. xm nav traffic is worthless compared to google maps.

I actually have a thread asking about XM traffic. I currently use Waz but don't look at the Waz map for traffic on the phone while driving. I'm constantly running into traffic back ups on the interstate and was considering XM traffic but $3.99 a month is high.

What are your dislikes about XM traffic???

It's nowhere near as up to date as waze. My advise to you is get a kenu airframe and use your phone with waze.

The Alpine speakers are cheap, imported junk! Pop one out & take a close look at it! I am looking at other options, too!

Re: My Alpine system ROCKS Here's why!!

Greetings,

Since I joined jeepgrage.org back in July of 2011, the debate on the Alpine system lives on and will always live on. As I have said many of a time here, people perceive sound differently than the next person.

Chrysler back in the beginning of the WK2 and now FCA designed this sound system as a general purpose 7.1 sound quality to satisfy the average user. That is why many here love this system because it sounds great to them. You also have those who really do not care about having a hi-end system in the vehicle and this works for them as well. So, yes the Alpine does rock.

However, the two (2) areas that shine for the sound quality are the use of only 1 tweeter and the speaker wire grade is excellent quality. As for the rest, the garbage can offers some exciting possibilities.

First and foremost, Alpine did not design this system, the had to work off the specifications given to them by FCA in order to maintain their production material & labor budget. As a member mentioned early, the speakers are cheap and they not even made by Alpine. The Uconnect HeadUnit is nothing to write home about and I do not know how the sound quality is on the new ones. As the source of the input material, this is the first and critical part to make a system rock.

When I demoed the system using a few of my Original Master Recording CD's, my conclusion was disappointed. I did not have to bother test the Bluetooth or the USB ports, since an uncompressed CD could not make the grade, how would these sources my the grade. My previous SirusXm tuner was far superior from this OE part that FCA offers. The compressed signal really shines on this system with those of the 1900's era. Their is no need for me to continue on the negatives since it has been stated more than enough.

When you compare the JGC to other car manufactures systems for the same classification, they win, we lose. Acura has an excellent 5.1 system. I did not buy the JGC for the audio system, rather for the rest of the product and what it do for me. For those who have the 2014+ HU's, their is nothing you can do to replace them other than work OEM integration products.

The debate will always continue until the redesign of the Alpine system and the next new debate will start. Remember, you and I do not perceive sound the same or have same appreciation level in quality or vice versa. This principle applies to many different scenarios. For example, the electronics and sound settings are the same, but different taste in speakers. You might find that speaker to be right. Whereas, I thing the other one does more justice.

Just my 2 cents on the Alpine system.

Best for now.

Re: My Alpine system ROCKS Here's why!!

Those stock speakers suck and you'll really experience how bad they were once you change them. Will non compressed music sound slightly better..yes. Will changing out the stock door speakers and dash speakers improve your sound drastically.. Definitely. Even without an amp it's extremely better. Throw a nice amp in there when your wallet allows it and that's even better.
