Nav into closed Interstate

Yesterday, I was returning to Virginia from Florida through I-95 in South Carolina. SCDOT has still closed 70 odd miles of I-95 between I-26 and I-20. The Jeep nav routed me right through the closed section of the Interstate. As I followed the detour to I-26 W, it continually tried to reroute me through side roads back onto the closed section of road, usually with a voice warning that some roads had closed. The traffic incidents showed up on the map as a series of yellow dots with exclamation points and the details showed the closed section of I-95. Every now and then it asks if I want to detour around traffic. It seems odd that it can route you around slow traffic, but can't reroute you around a closed road. If the car companies think they are ready for autonomous vehicles, they have a long way to go.

Re: Nav into closed Interstate

Soutbound opened today and northbound is supposed to open tonight/tomorrow.

Agree though, if a nav system is able to get information on backed up traffic, it should also be able to obtain information on all road closures and route accordingly. Then again, the information is only as good as what is reported to the database, and I have no idea how they obtain this information to begin with. Makes me wonder if any of the portable nav units do this...

Re: Nav into closed Interstate

Google maps is usually pretty accurate. I've been routed around temporarily closed roads before. OTOH maybe the Jeep nav considers anything less than two feet deep an annoyance.

waze = Google.
Agreed that's the way to go.

So sad FCA can't/won't work a deal just to use that for nav...

LOL, you want a crappy ass nav system that gets updates with 2+ years old map database to route you around closed roads??? roflmao good one. I was more surprised my jeep did not brew my morning coffee as I was driving to work, autonomous vehicles is already being worked on by Gaggle I mean Google.

Perhaps you've overlooked the fact that many folks have a sat traffic subscription on their NAV systems that is, in fact, supposed to help with such re-routing. It has nothing to do with the map vintage.
