Navigation Detour question

Last night I had a destination set in navigation and there was traffic jam ahead. I wanted to detour off the highway before the traffic jam. I pressed the detour button on the nav screen and another window came up with written route directions. I couldn't figure out how to activate it so it would re-route an alternative route. There was no go button>

What I did was just get off the exit and the nav kept trying to put me back on highway?

Anyone know how to use the detour feature?

Re: Navigation Detour question

On my way home from the dealer with my '17 JGC I got detour notices multiple times going around DC. The window that came up always had an accept and an ignore button.

IIRC my '14 JGC worked the same way.

The only thing I can think of is to check all your uConnect settings.

I am assuming since you have detour notices it must be linked to Travel Link Serious traffic which I do have activated. Strange no detour notices have ever popped up on my screen when there are traffic issues a head. As I said earlier I can press the detour icon but there is no accept button? I don't recall any settings for this but I will check.

I'm quite interested in what you find out as I still can't figure out how my '14 nav detour works. I'll constantly get "traffic jam ahead" voice notices, but have never seen a detour icon or pop-up. Is this in the nav manual anywhere or a setting that I can turn on?

Yes that's exactly what I get and after almost 3 years of ownership I have no idea how it's supposed to work and can 't find any info anywhere about it.

What I do see is that when you click the detour icon the written out directions show up on the screen and you can delete whatever road you want from the round gear icon on the right side of screen. Now it will reroute you keeping you off the road you deleted from the written directions.

I have always just exited off the road that was backed up and eventually the nav will re-route you as your driving. So IMO the detour option doesn't work and is totally useless.

Re: Navigation Detour question

I wonder if it only offers alternate routes near major cities. I go back to NY at least once a year and always get offered reroutes. More recently coming home from the dealer in Va, there were a number of detours around DC.

One thing which may not be obvious, is that you do need to have a destination set. If you just have the map on screen it will point out problems in the area. Without knowing where you are going, it can't offer alternatives.

Hello Bill could be it only works in major cities? I'm not sure I don't think I've ever tried it in a major city. As I stated in my original post the destination route is active. Not just using map. I'm Keeping a a close eye on this hurricane I'm in West Palm Beach FL. The detour feature would sure come in handy if I have to book it out of town tomorrow. Guess I can also use waze.

Thanks! Though, I don't think I've ever seen this detour icon. Where does it appear on the screen if I'm in the map?

Re: Navigation Detour question

I have been searching online and the only thing I found is that by default the system automatically reroutes around certain things. Somewhere on the screen when in Nav mode is a settings button. There should be an option for "Manual".

I have always used the Nav systems as they are when I get the car.
