Im in Dallas, TX. This is too widespread of an issue to be a mechanical issue. This is definitely a satellite or Uconnect problem.

Conspiracy Theory: Maybe they did this so we would all put our orders in for the MY16 grand cherokee
It might work I'm getting tempted....

You're crazy of this makes you want a '16 model. Issues like this make me want to run far far away from Chrysler.

Re: Navigation is being activated

This reminds me back in 98 when all of the satellite pagers in the country all took a dump at the same time. Some satellite blew a fart, and it took them a few days to straighten everything out. This will take longer based on how much this country has dumbed down in the last 17 years since.

Re: Navigation is being activated

With all due respect there is no chance it's the GPS satellites. There's no giant news story on google news about the global GPS system crapping. Many here have reported that they use their stand alone units fine. I use my google maps on my phone and it's fine too.

It's not everyone receiving gps signals it's just these radios. Every last one of them. It's a firmware bug- probably related to date.

The GPS satellites are just giant clocks that basically just transmit the time and the satellites' positions. They're not sending firmware updates or any other information. There's nothing wrong with them. If there was one with a problem then the air force would shut it down and the other ~30 sats would keep running. In fact i believe you only need to "see" 4 sats to get a fix and if you look at the sat info in the radio's they're routinely "seeing" 10-12. The Orbits are designed that they only need like a bare minium of something like 18 satellites to effectively cover the globe. So there's really nothing wrong with the GPS satellite network. They dont change the format of GPS signals willy nilly either- so it's not that the radios are barfing on a data change- there are new signals periodically added to the sats to make receivers more accurate but nothing is being deprecated anytime soon.

There's a possibility i guess that it's coming from the traffic info sent from the siriusxm sats but i think the 8.4a's can't receive that. So anyone with an 8.4a effected? (also i dont see a giant google news story about siriusxm fubaring everyone vehicle nav so it's a long shot).

Re: Navigation is being activated

The problem is, it is rocket science. From my conversations with Uconnect, they seem to believe it is something in Google/Garmin's end of the system. It's not playing nice with Uconnect software that worked fine a few days ago. Crap happens, and they'll get it fixed when they get it fixed. They can only do what they can do. I know it sounds like I'm making excuses for FCA, but crap like this can take some time to sort out. We're dealing with some pretty huge networks here. I'll have my handheld in my vehicle till they do. I even keep some paper maps in it, real stone age stuff.

Yep- customtronix effected too.

But they really aren't changing a whole lot anyway.
