Re: Navigation Issues

Just contacted HERE on their Toll Free number. BTW - HERE is Navteq...

Young lady called Michelle informed me that the map update will be "later this year" and they haven't heard anything about an update, as of yet.

I told her to get them to update the website message saying "Mid-October" to "Sometime later this year - maybe!".

Its already later this year it is almost November.
I heard the same "sometime this fall" I pointed out their website states mid October, no response. They really haven't got a clue when it will be first they said august then mid October now its later this year. my bet is we will not see anything until sometime in 2015

And it will already be out of date whenever it is released. I'll stay with Garmin; free updates a minimum of once a year, and capabilities the Chrysler option will never have, at least for the foreseeable future, really unfortunate.

yeah agree I had garmin in my last car worked great with free lifetime map updates 4 times a year so this is definitely a step back. the logic on this system is also terrible the traffic avoidance is almost unusable, my 10 year old Garmin system traffic avoidance worked perfect. I was just expecting more, is what it is I guess

Re: Navigation Issues

At this point if it were possible to swap out the head unit and retain the vehicle controls I would. Instead I'll run navigation on my phone and bitch at Jeep for shipping a shoddy product whenever they ask.

Re: Navigation Issues

My last question to Navteq on 10/22;

"Any update on the release of the next update? Summer has gone, as has mid October, which was the latest time stated on the web site."

Their response on 10/24;

"Thank you for inquiring about HERE Maps. Currently the release date for the update is scheduled for fall of 2014, subject to change."

The italics, underline and large bold face are my edits

Re: Navigation Issues

I was also told Fall 2014 today.

The outdated maps are the only serious complaint I have about my 2014 Summit. It is very annoying.

GPS in the 8.4an is decent.. for 2004. Searching is clunky, it's not smart enough to figure out neighboring cities and I have had it literally tell me to turn down a street going the opposite direction and flip a uturn multiple times. A 99 garmin unit could drive circles around this exorbitantly expensive pos head unit.

bingo. Very well put.

Except you dont need to even use a $99 garmin unit just FREE google maps.

At times i think maybe the Yelp search would be better but not so much. It's different but no better. It tries to be helpful but i guess the bing that powers it stinks? I was trying to find the quickest way to my local UPS Store from about 20 miles away. Nav couldn't find it in it's POI list so i tried yelp. I searched for UPS store and it gave me some like 40 and 70 miles away but lterally ignored 5-10 closer including the one i wanted. Then it thought it knew better and mixed in some staples (they'll ship UPS), some fedex, and some generic shipping stores. But couldn't find "UPS store" when I typed in "UPS Store". I even tried "ups store" + the town's name and still nothing.

If they got Yelp fixed, or just ditched it and replaced it with google then you could just search for stuff with that and tell it to nav there and the nav's crappy POI list would be less an issue.

oh well...

Re: Navigation Issues

I received a call from Chrysler corporate that map updates are further delayed until January. The issue is reported to be a problem with 3rd party supplier software. All we really need is map data, so in the 2+ years this update is being worked, perhaps we will see system improvements as well.
