Re: Navigation Map Display Quality 730/430

I know Im kicking up an old thread but for my question this seemed like the best place for it. I have the 430 (RHB) model and can't seem to do what I want. I am wanting to display the nav on the right half of the screen while still displaying the music information on the left half. Is this possible?

I don't think it is, I haven't been able to do it either though.

The 430 will not do that. I had the 730 in the JGC I just traded and I like that feature. The 430 I have now with the Garmin based nav is better than the 730, but I liked the graphics and small features I had in the 730.

It's unfortunate but the 730 and the 430 are each only half good, or maybe even 3/4 good. The 730 seems to have a higher resolution, the split screen, dead reckoning, and a few other pros. The Garmin has a better interface in some other respects, allows for adding points of interest, and a few other pros.

If only they could be combined into the same unit...

Re: Navigation Map Display Quality 730/430

I agree, the combo would work.

I'm ok with the 430 "down grade" excpet for the graphics. I get on the interstate with a complex maze of on and off ramps. The 730 showed all six of them and kept up with which I was on no matter how fast the traffice was. The 430 only shows two and gets lost in between as I change. That was disappoining.

Coming from an audi and a lexus before, the resolution and size of these screens is just appalling. It's completely rediculous in a car that expensive ( we pay premium for a wk2 in europe), to me the nav screen quality and daylight readability is far below what it should be.

Can't beat the voice recognition. System locks when your moving. Do miss the garmin aspect of a nav

Re: Navigation Map Display Quality 730/430

For those wanting to use Google Maps (or other phone apps) over the existing screen, check this out.

It is intended to allow your existing touchscreen factory system to both display and control your android phone. In other words, you use Google Maps on your phone, but see it on the 430/730 screen and control it using said screen. Audio is routed to the 430/730 via bluetooth.

There is a thread (a very long thread) on MP3Car.

After watching the video, I see they have the same thing for iPhone.

Some of the presentations have changed to remove the colors in an attempt to improve.
My first in dash navigation system was the RER on my 09 Challenger. I really liked the display and when I sold the car my next model did not have navigation built in. I really did not care of any of the PND units and especially hated the cartoonish fat lines of the Garmin interface. With that said I still preferred the Garmin PND solution over the others. Then Garmin released the 2012 Nuvi line and updated their iOS application to the new map interface. IMO it is the best looking maps out there. Its clean, the fat lines are gone, traffic is very well integrated into the interface and it has 3D terrain. I recently got back into a Challenger and it has the 730n. I still like it but I do agree that it has begun to look a little dated. I certainly prefer it over the 430n but as you said it is subjective. I really wish the new Garmin interface was an option though.
