Re: Navigation Maps sadly outdated

If you are in the least bit computer/Internet savvy....

Search for:
Garmin JetMouse v1.5+Fix
Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2014.30 Unlocked IMG Map
D3060120A.JCV

You will also need FID:3129

Cost = your time

And you can check this thread on the Wrangler forums:
430N RHB Updated with Garmin City Navigator 2014.10 NT - Page 2 - Jeep Wrangler Forum

Now if I could just find similar info for my buddy's Expedition and Escalade.

Garmin gets their maps from Navteq.
Jeep uses Garmin based maps.
Go into the tech menu on the radio and look for yourself.....

I've updated the maps my 430N/RHB from 2010 to 2012 and now 2013.

430 is Garmin based. In 2014 they use harman kardon based nav which is unfortunatelly as i prefer garmin.

Re: Navigation Maps sadly outdated

My '14 GC nav is a work of art compared to the $1750 optional system on my Z06. Still nothing beats my $177 Garmin GPS with the free lifetime traffic and nav updates.

Re: Navigation Maps sadly outdated

I wish I understood why we don't get more frequent map updates for our Jeeps. I have an excellent Garmin that I get free map updates 3-4 times per year. They are clearly MUCH BETTER than my 2014GC map. I suspect that it may be a lot of work to convert the base Navteq map to all the different models of Jeep GPS's for a relatively few customers. Had Jeep standardized on Garmin GPS's for the last 4 years, we might have had better service and better quality. Further, we wouldn't suffer the poor routing due to "unverified data".

I am pleased with Navteq map updates. I have submitted map corrections to Navteq over the years and they are all in the latest maps. It can take many months to show up because they independently check proposed changes.

This week, I was in a city with routing to GO HOME. I thought that I had to take a right but the Jeep map showed the route going straight ahead. I went straight only to recognize the the map was frozen and not updating. 30 seconds later the screen went black and I got the message "Navigation is being activated". Then it proceeded to show me how to turn around and go the right way.

We love everything about our 2014 Overland EXCEPT the navigation system. What a poor design; what poor map display quality; what poor map updates. I am hoping that Jeep is reading this forum and listening to customers and delivers a major software upgrade soon.

Tom

Greetings,

This a very good issue you brought up and sad to say at the Audio Division of Chrysler, they are alway missing the point about technology. In the last few years I have never been happy with the in-dash GPS systems from OEM or the aftermarket. Chevy is continually working on their GPS systems by integrating the smartphone app into in-dash units to get the latest software and maps. Both IGO Primo and Garmin are into new informat systems for the OEM market to use the smartphone as well, just like GM.

At the present time, for those who have the uConnect units that are intergratged with all the car controls, their is not much you can do to correct this situation.

Best for now and happy holidays.
