In the GPS arena, IGO has been around for awhile and is noted for their graphic presentation, but has lackluster routing performance and limited feature set. They had a go at stand alone awhile ago but fell on their face. Although some radio vendors have been using IGO, not all of them use it. Kenwood for one uses Garmin.

IGO may be good enough, however.

Greetings,

Sygic seems to be improving the routing on each update based on what I have read. I have not tried on it yet on a long trip. Sygic, is going to have a major update sometime after the summer. They are assembling the best of the user requests shown on their support page. Also the Garmin App, is pushing up their with major updates. Basically, I wait for the app to go on sale, this way it worth for me to try it out.

It is going to be interesting over the next months how GPS systems materialize as technology advances.

Best for now.

All they need do is place a checkbox for you to say use unverified roads.
That's a great idea. Let the user decide. My Garmin stand alone unit lets me decide on certain routing plans. If all the info is in there, it should be a simple software fix. If Jeep's worried we'll get lost and sue them (not unfounded fear in today's litigious society), they could have a disclaimer check-off.

Re: Navigation Performance

Uconnect is based on QNX - the underlying system of Blackberry OS 10 - so it should be something that's hackable to get actual software running on it. It'll be interesting to see what the hacking community can come up with.

OTA MAP UPGRADE/UPDATE!?!
Can someone confirm this about the NAV. Was running numbers at the dealer today and mentioned my still leased maxima Nav System cost $100 to upgrade when talking about the options between the 8.4A an 8.4N. The sales persons response was the NAV maps have a "free" over-the-air map updates unlike my Maxima which is updated via the DVD Drive. Anyone heard about this and if it is true???

Sounds fishy to me, but would be great if true!

Re: Navigation Performance

Whether or not it's free, over the air makes sense. My Jeep has no place to put a disk.

Re: Navigation Performance

I have gotten firmware updates for my Sony TV on usb thumbdrives for years now. Don't see any reason Chrysler couldn't do it that way (for free!).

Re: Navigation Performance

I was just looking around. BMW uses a USB ... but it isn't free.

Re: Navigation Performance

The (for free!) part was, of course, wishful thinking.
