Navigation voice prompts during Bluetooth phone call

I am considering the purchase of a new 2014 GC Summit and was doing a few tests on the navigation system. I noticed that if I had a route active and was on a Bluetooth voice call, I (and the person I'm speaking with) would hear the voice prompts. This is unlike my current 2 vehicles (Cadillac and Infiniti) which will mute both the radio and the navigation prompts while you're on a call. The ford, Hyundai, and Volvo's also mute the navigation during a call.

My question: is this the way the 8.4AN radio works or is this a bug? The jeep has the latest 14.25.05 software. I know I can turn off the voice prompts in the settings but I want to hear them except when I'm on a call. I don't want to go into the settings and turn the prompts off every time I make or receive a call.

Any input would be appreciated.

Have the same issue here, would like the voice commands to mute during calls. Interested to see if there's a solution

Re: Navigation voice prompts during Bluetooth phone call

worse yet there's a feature that it can 'remind you' when you are X miles over the speed limit.

So dont make a call if you are cruising on the highway and bumping up on that speed if you have that option set- the person on the other end will ask whey the hec the car keeps telling you the speed limit. LOL

That said- it's relatively easy to deal with / work around. The top left corner has a little box with the next turn. If you tap the box the robot lady will speak the next instructions- like "in 22 miles turn left". While she is talking adjust the volume (on the radio or with the steering wheel controls) and you adjust just her volume not your phone or radio- so you can quickly mute her when you are about to make a call.

Actually I prefer the chick to talk to me quietly so I'm CONSTANTLY turning her down anyway. The really annoying bug is the radio doesn't seem to remember the last volume level you set for her so she goes back to medium volume all the time when i want here to speak softly.

Thanks for the tip. Can you clarify if you mean the navigation volume resets to a preset level after you have turned off the car and then restarted it? Can you change that preset level in the uconnect settings? Also, what model year is your GC?

Re: Navigation voice prompts during Bluetooth phone call

Why not just turn guidance off? Everything would work (map display, turns pop up in evic).

You could do that unless you like/need the voice guidance on. I find the voice guidance helpful on unfamiliar routes and keeps your eyes on the road but I don't want to hear it during a call. Can you imagine being on a conference call for work and all of your colleagues hearing the navigation prompts while you are talking? Every other car navigation system I know of (Ford/Lincoln, Volvo, Cadillac, Buick, Audi, BMW, Subaru, and Infiniti/Nissan) mutes the radio and navigation voice prompts when you are on a bluetooth call so this seems to be somewhat standard (and logical) handling for this scenario.

I don't think it is practical to go into the uconnect settings and mute the nav voice every time you make or receive a call, and while I agree you could just always keep it off, this takes away an important (to me) convenience and safety feature.

I would like to see Chrysler do a s/w update to add a check box to the uconnect settings menu which says: "Mute navigation voice prompts during bluetooth call"

Yep- the nav volume resets to a preset level after you have turned off the car and restart it.

There is a nav volume setting in the uconnect settings but that too seems reset back to -IIRC- 9 every single time I start the car. Perosnally I'd like it to be 2 or 3 ALL the time- but it just wont stick.

I have a 2014... Durango.

The guts of the software seems to be the same for EVERY vehicle that uses this particular hardware- if you dig through the image you can find piles and piles of features and skins for other vehicles. Not just jeep and dodge but it also comes with fiat, freightliner, massaretti, all the chrylser brands, etc. If you factory restore it will first boot to an SRT install no matter what brand you have. So the flaws/bugs likely exist not just GC/Durango but in piles of vehicles.

I wouldn't hold your breath for them to add an option you want.

There are known bugs they can't seem to get around to fixing.

There are other UI issues that they have ignored and in fact carried over flaws from years old systems - for instance- despite having the ability to record a buffer and pause/ff/rw they HIDE the features on another page. Instead of just adding a play/pause button you have to hit a button to call that page up and then the same button to banish that page.

Then things that worked great in past generations they changed- for instance the 'sync' button doesn't lock the passenger and driver temps until disabled like 3 previous Chrysler corp vehicles i'v had doing that. Now it syncs when you tap the button but as soon as you do something beyond temp up or down it forgets it should be synced and you have to re-sync. So if - heaven forbid- you press the front defrost button when you windshield is frosty it un-syncs and you have to search around on the touchscreen for the sync button.

Seems there are not major issues left but that just makes the small issues left cringe-worthy that they are "this close" to a great system. Instead they seamed to have settled for "just better than all the other crap". Overall, It's better than anything I've ever seen but it is still far from perfect.
