Yeah, the mounting is the hard part given the setup of the interior. My buddy had a pretty good universal suction mount in his Nissan but I think it would be too far away in the Jeep. There's a couple decent vent mounts out there but that's not really an ideal solution either as they usually block the airflow.

I like the built-in nav but there's no question it isn't perfect. It's sent me some wacky routes so, most of the time, I check beforehand with my phone just to make sure the nav is making sense. That being said, after a year of owning the car, I probably wouldn't buy another one without it.

Re: Navigation worth it?

I am also in NYC. I own '11 WK2 and it was $450 option at the time. I think it is absolutely worth it, even though last time I was able to update maps about 2-3 years ago. It is just so much more convenient than the phone, especially easy integration with audio system when radio mutes during spoken directions.

I do use my phone before driving home from work to see which route is the fastest. My car nav doesn't support traffic but yours probably does for an extra monthly fee. Don't know how useful it would be though. I drove '15 for 2 days as a loaner and it had traffic information. It was really annoying because it would try to re-route me every 5-10 minutes.

For that price you can install a nice aftermarket stereo with Apple car play or similar and run navigation from your phone to your stereo. I just installed a Pioneer avh-x5800bhs and accessories (sirius xm, PAC steering wheel controls, dash kit, parking break micro bypass etc). for about $420

What MY GC do you have? I don't know of any aftermarket units that will go in the '14/'15 GC.

I have a 2012. You won't find a double din aftermarket radio to fit without modifications to the sub-dash.

I was looking on Chrutchfield for a new aftermarket and only the single dins were marked as "fits".

The double dins are marked "fits with modification".

Seeing that freaked me out a little but after a little research, I learned that when you pull the oem head unit. You will need to file down a plastic bar that runs across the top and bottom where the radio slides in. At most you will need to file an 1/8 of an inch between the two of them and once installed it won't ever be seen.

As Info you will also have to remove the metal bracket (3 screws) if yours has that (mine did).

Re: Navigation worth it?

What about controls only available on the touch screen, such as HVAC? Do aftermarket units account for these?

I second crombenevolants remarks and would add that the 3D function isn't all that impressive. Furthermore, I feel like I should call out that the Sirius XM real time traffic sux compared to Waze/Google Maps in the Portland, OR area. Waaaay out of touch with what's really happening on the road.

That said, HD radio really does sound better a nd was the reason I went with the RA4.

Now that I can't tell you. I checked Chrutchfield and an aftermarket may not work for your model year. You may want to check with a local installation shop.

Re: Navigation worth it?

I think not...I have NAV but always use WAZE (easier, shorter routing and better traffic)
Just mount your phone with a vent mount. No way I will pay for an upgrade unless it is apple play.
